1996 PASSAT GLX
This is the worst car I have ever owned, I got it second hand at 40,000 miles. The door handles have fallen off a few times. The transmission went at 80,000 miles. It has been estimated to be fixed for $3,525.90. The instrumentation cluster went at the same time, as well as the brakes and an airintake valve. All of these fixes have been valued at $5,200.00 and the car is valued at $6,000.00 and the worst part is I still owe $4,000.00. I feel like I have been royally screwed and would like to know if there is anywhere I can complain other than here. Whatever you do – don’t buy a VW

1996 PASSAT GLX – Saho- I have the same vehicle. what did you do? I have had to replace the transmission 2 times now at $3250 a piece, and this time it isn’t even working. Problems with the ABS light /codes complicate efforts to have the rebuilt tranny work correctly or so the mechanic says. I am trying to mount some legal action as well. My instrument cluster went as well. If you can believe it I still owe $8000 and blue book is $5000, but I have a copmletely rebuilt version now

1996 PASSAT GLX – Same car, More problems! Guys, I still owe $4500. I’ve had the car for two years. In that time I’ve replaced:
1 The drivers side mirror
2 The left rear window (motor)
3 The clutch
4 The air intake
5 The two front light bulbs.
6 An evaporator core
7 The ignition switch
8 The front wheel bearings
9 The front ball joints
10 The tires
11 The breaks
12 The battery
I am pushing $8,000 and the car only cost me $8500 two years ago.
What bothers me though, is having to buy an oil filter from advance auto parts, whenever I get the oil changed. (Jiffy Lube does not have mine)
That and the fact that even with all of the repairs I have done, my drivers side door handle, car stereo, trunk release, and thermostat are all still broken. At 23, this car is literally ruining my life.
