bad car, bad service!

So far Ive had my Jetta for 10 months and its been for service for exactly 30 calendar days. In addition to the problems listed below there are 4 other annoying, but not repeatable rattles, that of course never happen when the dealer is test driving it.

I understand that there will be noises when driving. But, comparing these to the 98 Jetta GT I traded in to get this, they arent normal noises. These are loose parts. I had the GT for about 3 years, when I decided to get a TDI. I dont think that these problems should be expected from a new car. The only modifications I have done to the car is a roof rack, braw and splash guards.

What amazes me is that dealer claims they have NEVER heard of any of these problems. When dropping the car off once, I told the service guy that he should do a search on the internet. Hed hear about them there! I also told him that if he wanted to hear the rattles that I have been complaining about, go drive one of the loaners. All of them that I have driven have several of the same rattles I have. So, there is a reoccurring problem.

Ive been running B100 in it for about the last 2000 miles.

Here is a summary of the problems and the solutions (you will see that not all the problems were solved on the first attempt):

The car is a 2003 TDI Sedan GLS. I took delivery of the car Dec 29, 2002

Jan 15-17, 666 miles
Sunroof rattle
Tightened something

Rattle in the center vent
Disassembled then reassembled.

Mar 8-13, 3079 miles
Rattle in the center vent
Replaced center vent

Coolant light came on (coolant level was low)
Replaced a coolant hose and T Pipe

Clunk in the right front corner of the car when stopping
Replaced right front sway bar link.

Rattle in both front doors in the area of the speakers
Adjusted both door latches

Mar 15-19, 3109 miles
Loud noise when fan is turned on. (it sounded like a loose piece of plastic hitting the fan blades)
A loose piece of plastic was found in the fan. (This was caused by the previous service)

Right door rattle – They couldnt hear it No work done

Apr 17-23, 4229 miles
Right door rattle
Loose tube behind door panel – fixed

Cup holder sticks (This was caused a the previous service) – Readjusted

Rattle in the center vent – Replaced defroster switch

Oil change (not a problem)

May 5-7, 4690 miles
Rattle in the center vent
Traced the noise to a rattling switch. Felt tape was put on the mating faces.
When picking up the car I still heard a rattle. They found a dummy switch was also rattling. They put felt tape on the mating faces of that too. The service manager rode with me along with the resident rattle expert. The service manager claimed he couldnt hear a thing, while the rattle expert said, here is the problem and promptly fixed it.

July 12-17, 8531 miles
The brakes intermittently drag. After releasing the brake (foot brake) they grab for a little while. Sometimes I have to tap the breaks to un-stick them. When tapping them when they are dragging, they are very sensitive!!!!
Left door rattle – They couldnt hear it No work done
Glove box light doesnt work (This was caused a the previous service)
Drink holder sticks (This was caused a the previous service) supposedly they fixed it, but it still sticks.

October, 11000 , miles
Left speaker still rattles
Drink holder still sticks
Random, unrepeatable rattles – I gave up trying to get the dealer to fix these.

Other than the rattles, I love the car. I understand that parts fail, and need to be replaced. Thats a fact of life. But, so many problems in a brand new car? That is very poor quality control.

It is nice to see that I am not the only one that is having problems. Not that I wish them on others. But, there are several problems that I keep reading about that havent happened, yet Im not looking forward to them.
