New here- I like VW’s
You said to be honest, so I will but you’re not going to like it! I have owned VW’s for 25 years or so and will continue to I die. I also own several other GM vehicles and the VW has the fewest problems as my GM vehicles. From reading over the other messages here it looks like the owners think one should own a VW for 100,000miles and not spend a dime on the car for repairs or service. You complain about brake wear… well my parents get 40,000 miles on brake pads, I get about 30,000 for my 99 GLX Passat which I think is very good, but then again we don’t drive our cars aggressively. At 40,000miles my Passat needed a water pump so I replaced it… should have it lasted longer, maybe, but then again I have light bulbs burn out in my house which I think should last longer too but done. That’s just life. MY closing statement: all cars have problems, not just VW’s and I bet for every negative user here there are 1000 or so very happy VW owners. Oh, another problem is you’re message board used here will suck in time if the user base gets bigger

New here- I like VW’s – All views are welcome. Please see:here.
Also your programming advice is greatly appreciated. Not to launch a web dev debate but this site is beta as its popularity was not yet proven. Judging by the results so far if the board gets any bigger it is not so much the coding that will suck – rather the topic.

New here- I like VW’s – we are honest, i have owned many vw’s also. what i dont like is that vw knows that there is a problem we these cars and wont help you. rear brakes dont wear out at 30,000 miles while the front ones look like they just came out of the box. and how many window gaskets did you change over your 25 years of ownership….i bet the answer is none. they just wont admit that there is a problem…thats the problem with vw.

New here- I like VW’s – To your point, Larry, I needed rear brakes and a rotor at 27,000 miles. It’s clearly a known issue (there are others) and to be honest and recall them would cost VW more than they’re willing to pay, and at the expense of customer loyalty. Wasn’t a site like this inevitable given this corporate policy of abandonment?

New here- I like VW’s – I think the primary issue is with the 4th generation Passats/Jettas/Golfs. I believe many earlier VWs were good, reliable vehicles.
My 2000 GTI GLX needed more than $5,000 of repairs in less than 3 years. Nothing I did to the car caused these repairs, either. This is patently absurd, particularly on a car that cost $23,000. I have had 3 Saturns that cost half as much that were much, much cheaper to maintain.
And by the way, 100K and little spent on repairs is par for Honda and Toyota. Until VW gets their act together, I will drive Hondas. They ain’t that exciting to drive, but then, the VW was VERY exciting to drive, because I never knew if it would start or when the window would fall in the door.

New here- I like VW’s – Wondering, how many miles do you think the brakes, especially the rears should last on the VW’s? The rear pads are about 1/2 the size as the fronts so I guess that’s why they don’t last as long. Could VW make then last longer, YES they could by maybe using bigger calipers and pads but that will increase the cost of the car. My wife’s Chevy Malibu is the exact opposite of what the VW is… she needs front pads and rotors every 15,000 miles and has 30k on the rear shoes. But then again she drives into the city everyday in stop and go traffic. Also to the last reply, what went wrong that you spent 5k in 3 years on your Jetta?

New here- I like VW’s – for 25 years they may have produced excellent vehicles. But in 99/2000 things took a nosedive. I am happy for you if you have one of the better vehicles. I had my car in the shop 8 times in the first 4 months of ownership and it has continued since then. Of my friends who own VW’s from that time period, we all share the same problems when it comes to the windwos, glove compartment, oxygen filters, sensors failing, rear breaks, etc.
