If the big 3 made a diesel car.

VW would be screwed. But since they are in bed with the gas companies, we dont get one. They make diesel engines here and ship them overseas. So VW sells diesel cars because nobody else will. No one ever said they were reliable. The consumer magazines always leave out reliability when testing VWs. But they want to sell cars and keep our so called economy moving. They always break. Germans always make due with less, hence the over engineered, wound tight cars, that break soon as you leave the dealer. If it aint a diesel, get an escort. Cost less runs better and parts are cheap.

If the big 3 made a diesel car. – VW definetely makes a great diesel. America won’t wake up to diesel most likely due to the black clouds coming out of trucks and memories of GM’s moronic attempt to convert a gas Caddy to Diesel. Diesel is the torque king and what we really feel when we drive. 49% of all VW sold in Europe are Diesel. I will add to your comments about US manufacturers sleeping with OPEC. But also note are moronic politicians who sleeps with truckers who don’t want to pay 5 cents more to have clean diesel formulated like it is Europe. German diesel cars do run well in the U.S. but they would run a lot better if they had clean fuel. But since GM/Ford, et al are making a ton selling soccer moms SUV’s why bother converting to gas. On this I refer to Bill Mahr’s publication, “If you drive alone you are driving with Osama”. Going further political what if we only relied on half the gas we use today – would we give a damn about Iraq. (disregard I am off the VW topic) My next car will be bought in 2006 when we are supposed to have clean diesel, unless the politicians cave to special interests again. Hopefully VW reliability will be up to where it should be in 2003.
