Window Problems

Just an FYI…My window clips broke on my Jetta for the second time now. This time the window could have shattered and fell into the car, thank god no one was in the passenger seat. I had to tape up my window for the weekend but had it at the VW Shop first thing Monday Morning and they repaired it with “new clips”. As many of you may know VW was replacing the window clips with the same faulty parts. Hopefully they really are new clips and we won’t have this happen again. Its very cold in Chicago and noisy when your window breaks. VW SUCKS!!! AMEN!!!!

New Clutch Needed at 13k

Ok, so I have owned three vehicles prior to my MK1V that were manuals and I NEVER had any clutch issues so early in the game. I have owned my golf for 7.5 months and have put a little over 13k on it. Now my clutch is slipping and the “Stealership” told me that my warranty wouldn’t cover it, b/c it was past 12000 miles and so I would have to pay $500.00 in parts and $470.00 in labor. These were Remanufactured parts too. So then I go looking around online and I found the EXACT same clutch kit with NEW parts for only $179.00 w/ free shipping. I am so angry at my local stealership for not being considerate of the fact that I bought the vehicle with 964 miles on it to begin with so I really would only be about 340 miles over the warranty.

YBH == “”You’ve Been Had”" on your 1.8T

1.8T NewBeetle
Clutch. 15000 miles. Dealer says “”oh, they all sound that way, that’s normal.”"

driven a stick for 25 years. never heard a clutch like that.

throwout bearing’s shot. clutch plates have no wear at all. who ever heard of such a thing.

replaced it. 1500 dollars. dealer wont cover it.

now, the sound is back AGAIN.

used to own 2 VWs. drove nothing but VWs for 25 years.

now, sold my one VW, and am working on selling the other.

Will *never* buy a VW again.

Mr Shapiro

Jack Shapiro…..before you make any more claims of professionalism: please know at least a few of the basics. For instance: the VW warranty is 4yrs/50k miles..not 2/24 as you have stated. That warranty disappeared in the 2002 model year. These people have been through enough, Mr. Shapiro. Please do no make it worse with fake credentials and false claims.

How To Check Your OEL

Hello,

Alot of peolple don’t really know how to do this so here it is.

First only check your oil hot after engine has reached temp.
Only after being driven for 15 minutes or better on the highway.
The reason is when cold you have water/fuel from the previous run, raising the level.
Then when you drive it burns off and have much less than you thought.
Also when oil gets to temp it expands simular to ATF.

Check On a level surface.
With the engine not running after it has set still for 5 minutes.
The ideal spot on the dip stick is in the middle of the dots or x’s on the stick.
If needed add only 1/4 of a quart at a time and wait a little.
Then check/repeat until proper level is obtained in the middle.

It is important not to overfill for these reasons.
The oil level when to high will be wipped by the crankshaft.
In turn causing these problems.
MPG loss
Foaming of the oil causing lubrication airation.(ever hear of having air in you brakes they dont work to well do they)
The added resistance causes higher oil temps.
When oil gets to hot it breaks down the lubrication quality.
The oil becomes more of a vapor then just normal blow by.
It then goes to the vents or anyway out it can go.
The evap
The back of the throttle body causing sludge where it wont adapt properly.Remember in the new cars there’s no cable,Fly by wire.( the EPC light on the dash)It will mess up the idle.
It will cause the computer to learn outside its adaptive limits of one direction.
I have even had cars learn not to run and take a throttle response.
It doesn’t burn nice so it causes misfire’s in turn damaging the Catalyst,02 sensors, and of course the MAF.

A dead give away of this is oil in the airbox in the early cars.

You will see dirt sticking to oil at the intake boot location at the throttle body.

So next time your at a quicky lube and some guy is changing your oil just a little to quick
be careful.
The oil dominos of death may come to meet you real soon,
to obtain your wallet.
If there are any questions please ask.

Best Regards,

Jack Shapiro

VW CAR’s What ?

Hello Rick / Forum

My name is Jack Shapiro. I’m a master VW-Audi Tech.
If anyone has a real problem. I would really like to try to help. I repair cars that most dealers or private repair facilities can’t fix. I really like the challenge. Some things VW make do suck. Ill be the first to admit it. However, this is job security for me. My feeling is also that If serviced properly by a qualified tech they do go a long time. Unfortunately, I left the dealer network due to the BS that people are complaining about In this forum. It just makes my business stronger. I think the biggest problem is. The I don’t care about your problem feeling, or lack of professionalism at the dealer level, because all cars break its a fact of life. I am In my 10th year of being self-employed. Please let me know if I can be of assistance. I sell parts & provide service. I have read almost every publication in regard to repair on these vehicles & still read more everyday. Im knowledgeable of most of the polices and procedure’s in VWOA.

Best Regards,

my dream car…

2003 jetta 1.8T
I bought it in July, few weeks after my birthday because a piston had shot in my 92 jetta due to my lack of getting a tune-up (i learned my lesson a bunch of money later).
I was so excited to have my dream car.. you couldnt even imagine, even if it already had 100 miles on it from being driven from another dealership. Two weeks after i purchased my car the engine light went on. I read the manual and it said if the light wasnt flashing, that its not a serious problem. So on my way to an appointment, i stopped at the dealership where i had bought it. The sales guy told me to drive my car the 500 miles, but if i was concerned to bring it in. One day later, the light went off. So i figured it must have just been a little tempromental.
Two weeks later, it went on for a few hours, then went off. It stopped turning on until Oct.
I took it in to the dealership in Oct, where they had told me i had a bad brake fuse and i had a recall on my coils. I never knew it had a recall on it. And no one bothered to fix it when it was sitting on their lot.
Two weeks later, the light appears again. I take it in and they say its an emissions problem. They replaced a hose and that was it.
One week later, light on AGAIN.
I take it in, emissions problem again, and they have called out to vw headquarters to have someone investigate. A week later, im told that i had a pin-hole leak in my purge valve.
About two weeks later im backing out of my driveway and my back tire rubs against a cement slab and my right side airbags deploy. Mind you, the rear passanger tire did not pop, nor was there any body damage. My boyfriend drove it down to the dealership while i followed in another car.
And here, is where all holy hell broke loose.
I spoke with VW safety and told them what had happened, and believe it or not, she told me that even if i went over a pothole, it would do the same thing.
After having a lemon law mechanic come and look at my car, he says that i have some damage to my alignment and suspension.
When my insurance adjuster came out they wouldnt put the car on a rack for him to see the under carriage damage because, and i quote, ‘you cannot see it with the naked eye, it needs to be on an alignment machine.’ Two other people say that my damage can be seen with the naked eye and that you can see it without putting the car up. Its funny when my insurance adjuster says that he took pictures of my airbags deployed and the smudge on my tire from the curb, but there was nothing else to photograph.
My story is unfinished. It leaves me a little over a month without my car, and me going to do the inspection with my insurance adjuster next week when they finally put the car on a rack for us.
Stress? oh you bet. airbags dont deploy when you rub against a curb. especially when your only going in between 10 and 15 mph. Now if VW can prove that my suspension damage is consistant with where the tire hit the curb, my car can no longer be classified as a lemon. I never said i didnt hit the curb. But whos to say my suspension wasnt tweeked a little from someone driving it those 100 miles? Did the engine light go on for that person? If so, why didnt they fix it?
Note to all.. new jetta’s suck. stick with older models. i wish i never got rid of my old one, for this deam car is certainly my worst nightmare. I will never buy another VW, no matter how cute i think they are or how cool they look.
And if your wondering.. VW’s estimate is ballpark $5,000.00

2001 Jetta Wolfsburg

I am leasing a 2001 Jetta Wolfsburg 1.8T, and I can honestly say that it is the worst car I have ever had. When I started leasing the car the standard warranty was 2 years/24,000 miles. My lease is only for 4 years, so I did not even consider buying the extended warranty. BIG MISTAKE! Now, let me preface the following comments with the fact that most of what has happened to this pice of shit was covered by warranty. However, that is only the case because my warranty just ran out last July. Two weeks after I got the car I had to go back in and get the freon for the AC recharged. I had to go in four separate times for my piece of $*#@ coil packs before they finally sent out the notice of recall. The motor for the power windows burned out after one year. Last Friday my alternator burned out after only 33,000 miles. I got it replaced on Wednesday and the replacement when bad today. On top of it all the customer service sucks a$%! I will never buy or lease a VW again. Nor will I ever recommend one to anyone I know.

1.8 T Dual Mass Clutch

Hello Everyone,

In my professional opinion.
The dual mass clutch is a problem in all the cars VW – Audi.I work on them as well as sell lots of VW-Audi Parts.
I have seen many pressure plates broken right in half.
Then in turn cutting the bell housing like a razor blade.
I have good news though.VW-Audi cars are covered Bumper to bumper 224.
I would just file a notice of claim in your local court they have to show or pay.
Let the Judge look at the complaints, because If he asks them to disclose this, they have to present it by law.

Best Regards,
Jack Shapiro
