VW 1996- sucks
I have been a VW fan, after having 4 of them. 1 rabbit 79 which ran perfectly over 9 years, then 2 quantum 1988, which I still have one running perfect, and a golf 1994, which I trade in for a Passat 96 which became a nightmare. The list of problems began with spear parts that the dealer never has on stock, and not to mention that they are high priced. On my first year the ABS light on the dash board lighted the repair cost $1500, for the ABS computer plus $900 for the brake pump. Suspension repairs at 50,000 miles cost me $2800 plus Bilstein shocks absorber price at $1200. During that, two times I need to fix oil leakages from transmission and motor, and several times I needed to changes plastic parts of the cooling system.
When I sold the car, at a very low price, it was on perfect condition but I was afraid to keep using it because it was and endless story of costly repairs and 3 to 4 weeks of waiting for parts to arrive to the dealer.
VW had changed the successful marketing philosophy that they had 10 years ago when they made cars that ran trouble free, simple to fix. I will never buy a VW again or a car that has a relation with VW.
