My Crappy 2003 GTI 20th Anniversary

Hello – I’m new to this message board. This was also my first VW. Needless to say it will be my last. I’ve had so many problems with this car that I’ve started a data spreadsheet on my PC to keep track of all of them. First the brake make noise – I’m not talking about a gentle squeak, they SCREAM!!!!!! during all types of braking methods/pressures. After arguing with them about 8 times the dealer refuses to acknowledge this and told me that everything on the car works like it should. Why would a car maker make noisy brakes? It’s embarrassing to be seen in this thing when it makes that kind of noise. It’s louder than the stereo cranked up! There’s also a creepy moaning sound when the cars rolls backward (in neutral) like bending metal but more eerie sounding. The dealer said it’s my brakes again. I told them I’m not using my brakes when this noise happens so why would they make noise? More, the headlights dim in and out, the radio is possessed cause the volume swells up and down (both due to major electrical problems), the driver door pops out sometimes, the engine sounds HORRID after sitting for just a little while (over night). Here’s the kicker for those that are still reading this – I bought the car “”new”" (which was a lie) from the dealer. I knew it wasn’t new cause it had 1300 miles on it. Why did I buy it you ask, cause it was the last one in the state and they said it had never actually been titled (which was another lie)and they’d give me a full 4 yr warranty from when I buy it. I told them right away the brakes made a ton of noise and I want them fixed and they said they just needed to be cleaned (which made sense at the time cause the car was dirty and the entire VW dealer is directly next to a mining place with a sand/dirt mountains all around). So I took they’re word for it cause dirty brakes can make noise. After the purchase I found the old purchase order from the person who bought it first from the same VW dealer. I was curious and called him up. He was a very nice kid and he had the most rotten luck with it just as I have (gee – go figure huh). He said the car kept dying left and right and he had to get it towed to the dealer cause it wouldn’t start anymore. After a while the dealer swapped out the car for a brand new one and sure enough sold me the lemon. And the kicker – I got a letter from the state stating they never changed the title to the car. They had no right even to sell it to anyone. And obviously they didn’t say one word to me about the car having any kind of background like this else I wouldn’t have bought it. The VW dealer won’t even honor their so called full warranty and fix anything on the damn car. They actually said this to me “”It’s just one of those things you know, we can’t help you.”" I almost went on a shooting spree in the dealership right then and there. VW SUCKS bigtime.

A very upset JP

transmission fun

I just had the pleasure of spending $3,400 putting a used transmission, clutch kit, and a flywheel in my car. Ooops, the seal are leaking, only another $950 to fix them.

Did I mention the car is only 4 years old with 110,000 miles.

F**k VW

2000 GTI VR6

This hunk of poop enrages me. Since the warranty has expired I’ve had to replace the mass air flow sensor, the rear brakes, the serpentine belt and the battery. All before the car even hit 30,000 miles! thankfully I turn this leased piece of dung in 2 weeks from now.
I can only pray nothing else will break before then.

Cracked oil pan

I recently purchased a certifed 2000 VW. I have had nothing but problems getting the dealership to honor its bumper to bumper warrantee since I purchased the vehicle. The most recent, and so far the most expensive problem, is a cracked oil pan. I got in my car a few days ago, and after driving two blocks, the car died. I had the car towed to the dealership. They called me and in an accusatory tone state that I hit something which led to the oil pan getting bent up into the transmission, and has led to the transmission now being cracked. Well since I am the only driver of the car, I denied the accusation and mention that there was no front or rear end damage to the vehicle to prove that I hit something. This was followed by them denying the claim stating that the bent oil pan was my fault, and thereby not covered by the warrantee. I still contend that I did not hit anything other larger than a pothole, which is to be expected with city driving. To add insult to injury, the service center has said that they can not gaurantee that the car will work after tI shell out the money to have it fixed. I have had the car at this point for less than six months.

Within the last three days, I have seen several complaints about cracked oil pans and VWs. I am going to fight this and I was wondering if anyone that if anyone who has had a similar problem would please get in touch with me. Also, if anyone has any info on clearance issues (VWs being built low to the ground) also please send that info my way as well. Any and all help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

2001 Jetta TDI Serpentine Belts etc..

I bought my Jetta in March/01 since then I have had to replace my serpentine belt FOUR times as well as other numerous parts. I repeatedly told the dealership that there must be something that is not aligned properly that is causing this belt to tear. They repeatedly told me that I was crazy and that they had checked all the alignments and everything was fine. Now, being the fourth time this belt has broken I am telling them that I will not pay for another belt and that they should be covering my expenses. They said they are not responsible. I disagree!!
