TDI owners beware!!!!
I have some critical information that I wanted to post on your forum I have a 2001 TDI Jetta that required the replacement of its MAF sensor. As a result, I began to find out many of the problems that Bosch has had in the production and the extended warranty offered by VW to help keep the problem manageable. You see, the MAF sensor for the diesel is $509.00 MSRP (dealership), while its only $85.00 MSRP (dealership) for the gasoline version. Here is the critical part THEY ARE COMPATIBLE (and this was confirmed by a factory dealer). The only thing different about the parts is the part number itself even MORE alarming is that VW knows but hasnt done anything about it!
I found this just scraping the surface who knows what other cash grabs are going on for the diesel owners!!!
Tell the world please.

TDI owners beware!!!! – Matt
I understand completly. I think that it makes more sense to take your vw to another service station that an actual vw dealer. There are reputable repair shops out there that will not try to gouge you. Just not vw dealers.
By the way what does the fact that the warranty only lasts for 7 years have to do with anything as your car is only 3 years old and I didn’t see anywhere in your post that you had exceeded the 70k miles either.

TDI owners beware!!!! – They are compatible, but NOT exactly the same. Some people have seen problems (increased smoke, drivability issues) with the 2.0 MAF.
It’s a moot point anyway, since you can get a Pierburge MAF for 80 bucks (see http://www.tdiclub.com in the vendor forum) and VW has extended the warranty to 7/70 for the MAF.

TDI owners beware!!!! – Just another VW design flaw. Add to the list clogging intake manifolds, plastic window clips, window switches, relay 109, starters, headlights, temp sensors, mirror heaters,….
