VW story for the ages!

Ok I purchased a near new VW Jetta VR6 GLX 2002 Jetta in Nov. of 2002. I drove the car home fine and stored it for the summer periodically turnin it on and such since it was North Dakota I didnt want to get the thing all messy. In August I was on my way to drive out to Los Angeles for school. As Iam driving out my car is doing great! I loved the thing. Anyhow near L.A. I got into a 7 car pile up I was the last car to hit I barely hit the car in front of me I hit on the driver’s side door just putting a dent in my car no biggie can be fixed. So I continue to drive into L.A. and for some reason I decided to get off the freeway and go down Imperial Hwy. As iam driving down the street my check engine light comes on an in about 1 sec my where the gas gage is says the words “stop” I immediately pull over and the sec I get outta my passenger side door since my door was now jammed my car starts on fire! Yes FIRE! The car had 11,000 miles exactly on it. I started franticly calling 911 and grabbing things outta my car. The first thing I grabbed was my video camera to record this. Even before the fire trucks arrived my car was engulfed in flames! It spread so quick that I still get shivers if i wouldnt have gotten off the freeway what would have happened. I lost a lot of stuff in the fire. The official investiagtion said the cause was caused by NORMAL where and tear! Yes thats what VW told me, 11,000 miles and thats NORMAL! The wreck had nothing to do with the fire at all. VW when I called treated my rudely and basically didnt give me the time of day. Thankfully I got it ALL on tape, and their is a certain tv-show that might want to see this info if well VW doesnt do something!

VW story for the ages! – OMG… that’s scary – it’s lucky you had a “normal” fire instead of one of those abberations that affect other brands.

I’d be happy to post your video here… contact me here.

VW story for the ages! – HOW DO YOU FEEL QUALIFIED TO MAKE THE STATEMENTS YOU MAKE? DID YOU CHECK THE CAR OUT AFTER THE ACCIDENT TO BE ABSOLUTELY SURE THAT NOTHING WAS DAMAGED THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED THE FIRE? IF THE DOOR WAS DAMAGED ENOUGH SO THAT IT COULD NOT EVEN OPEN, HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT NO WIRING INSIDE THE DOOR WAS SHORTING OUT? DO YOU THINK IT’S REALLY FAIR TO BLAME VW FOR WHAT HAPPENED TO THE CAR AFTER IT’S BEEN IN A COLLISION SERIOUS ENOUGH THAT YOU COULD NOT OPEN YOUR DOOR?

VW story for the ages! – The car’s fire wasn’t any where near the door, the fire fighters said there was absolutely no way that the collision caused it, it was in the gas hose! I believed the fire fighters when they told me that the fire wasnt caused by the accident. The fire fighters had never even seen a fire this big and done that fast on ANY car they ever put out. That says a lot about those cars. I wasn’t totally blaming VW, the fact they told me it wasn’t their problem and said the fire was caused by normal driving was the reason I have a grudge with VW! I’d love to post the video as soon as the lawsuit is taken care of, legal reasons. I will get back to you on that when it occurs. Cheers!

VW story for the ages! – Your an idiot in the first place for driving a car after the accident. Have someone check it out and get it fixed before driving. That takes real integrity to screw up something you finance thousands of dollars for, and drive away from an accident. So this happened August of ‘03? It seems like you’ve had a lot of luck getting video tape on the air of something that happened 8 months ago! At the end of the video reel they should show your stupid face followed with “what not to do after an accident: drive away”. You might have luck selling it to AAA if they are looking for material for an accident claims process intructional video. Some cars suck, some owners suck.

VW story for the ages! – This is your only warning, Ryan.

Keep it civil – or at least read the post you’re flaming before responding – or we’ll have to delete you.

VW story for the ages! – We have been waiting for our attorney to get through the mess, if you didn’t know stuff like this takes time. They projected it would be a year before anything happened. And for your information we had a mechanic check out my car before I drove off it was FINE. So if you would not be immature about it and ask me why didn’t you get it checked first rather then start something over the internet! Real mature… Thanks Rick

VW story for the ages! – Alright I did jump the gun, got fired up, and do apologize — won’t happen again. You have to admit, the way you typed it made it sound like you drove right off without even stopping — nonetheless I should have asked. The cause was deemed normal but did they ever say specifically what the cause was?

VW story for the ages! – ummm.. it’s a vw… do you need more cause than that?!?

VW story for the ages! – They told me, get this, it was caused by NORMAL driving! Thats what the VW investigators said! My car had 11,000 miles on it! Normal driving my rear end! My car was running smoothly up to 5 min. before the fire

VW story for the ages! – OK there MUST be more to this story… I won’t believe that anyone told you that a fire is a normal result of driving. That’s like brain cancer being a normal result of drinking a particular beverage. I’m on your side on this but I now NEED to know who said what! (not names, obviously!)

VW story for the ages! – The people at VW had a investigator go check out my car in the salvage yard a day or two after the fire. They came to the conclusion the fire was caused by normal driving wear! Iam not kidding around that’s what they told us, ive even got a written statement that says this! Now if you think thats wack I do to! 11,000 miles and a fire starts and its normal driving wear is soooooooo stupid its almost funny…

VW story for the ages! – Ask them to define what particular “”normal driving wear”" caused the fire.

And by the way, yes, you really should have stopped and had the car checked out before going on a long road trip, especially after getting into an accident.
