2001 Jetta wheel bearings
After owning a 84 Jetta Gli and getting 228,000 miles out of it without any real problems I thought it would be great to buy a new 2001 Jetta GLX (cause I was informed that Glis would not be out for monthsthey were out 3 three weeks after I bought the GLX). I initially had fun with this car, but somehow the fun dissipated with the breaking of this and the not working of that, things that never showed up in my old car. So much to my surprise when at 54,000+ miles my right front wheel bearing starts to go. Checked with the dealer to see if there are any tech notices and got BS that it happens. I informed him that the car has seen almost all highway miles, not been in a accident and has not hit any pot holes or objects to cause this. Plus for a wheel bearing to go out at 54,000 miles sucks, my old car went at least 150-180,000 before it even started to act up. I know that Ive got high miles on the car compared to others cars in my area, so I was wondering if anyone else has seen this problem, or if I got the best of the wheel bearing batch

2001 Jetta wheel bearings – I once had a (gulp) chrysler that lost both front bearings at 42000km (~25000miles)… thank gosh for extended warranties – the first time I ever ponied-up for one….but it was a chrysler after all.

2001 Jetta wheel bearings – I drove my ‘94 Jetta over 400,000 kms (250,000 miles)before the wheel bearings went.
Maybe I’m the luckiest Jetta owner ever.. but nothing really broke down until about 400,000 kilometers.
I’m still driving it now at 450,000… of course now it’s a little quirky… lol the fuel pump sounds like a donkey… but the pump has worked great for years in this condition… lol who knows? it’s nutty.

2001 Jetta wheel bearings – I had a Bad Bearing as well. 30,000 miles is about when it went out.

2001 Jetta wheel bearings – I took my Jetta in after listening to 5000 miles of new road noise. I thought it was the new set of tires I had replaced at 50,000 miles. As it turns out, I have not one…but TWO bearings that need replacement. I’m having trouble finding a place that will do it for less than $350. Of course, the warranty went out at 50000, and i’m at 55000 now. grrrr…
