Window Issues
I have read the post on having issues with the motor for power windows, but has anyone had problems with the window clips breaking and the window coming off the track? The first time they replaced the plastic clips for metal ones (my window fell all the way in to the door). The second time, they said that the cables were all twisted up (not sure how that happens, but the window only fell half way into the door that time). Just yesterday, the window started creeping down by itself. I was able to drop my car off at the dealership, and when I picked the car up this morning they told me that the metal clips they had put in about a year ago had broken. After reading about the mechanical issues people have I don’t have too much to complain about, but the warranty issues I’ve been having are just enough to be annoying and time consuming (my dealership won’t drive 2 miles to my work b/c it’s over a bridge with a toll, and they only have 4 loner cars which take on average of 2 weeks to reserve one).

Window Issues – Metal crips breaking is an oddity. Thankfully, VW warranties this part for 7 years, but yes I can understand the frustration of the metal ones breaking not once but twice.
At this point, I would start questioning the quality of service at the dealership. Perhaps you should try going to another one?

Window Issues – Thanks for the input. Currently I am under warranty, so I haven’t had to pay for the window repairs, but this does concern me once my warranty runs out. I have had a number of other trivial warranty issues, that when added up get very frustrating. My dashboard has been replaced (broken air vent cover), my passenger side front air bag cover was replaced (after the dashboard). My driver seat frame broke and was replaced. My stereo crapped out for no reason one day and was completely replaced, and I have the black coating on my door handle, ash tray cover and arm rest peeling off (in the process of being replaced). The clip on the arm rest that holds it shut broke, and the base knob on my original stereo broke off (didn’t need to be replaced b/c the stereo went before the part came in). Compared to other postings on this site, my problems are small, but they are frustrating. I had fewer problems on my old honda civic than I have had with this car. It is difficult for me to go to another dealer b/c there aren’t that many around where I live/work. I’m at a crossroads right now as to whether I want to keep this car and risk a bunch of things going after my warranty expires.

Window Issues – I forgot to mention that I barely use the base knob on my stereo (being that I can’t really tell the difference most of the knobs make), and the only time my driver seat gets moved is if my boyfriend drives my car (which is very rare). The point I’m trying to make is that I’m not abusing my car and I don’t undertand why things keep breaking.

Window Issues – It’s a 2002 Jetta GLS. I purchased it new in Jan/Feb or 2002.

Window Issues – One other thing…has anyone ever had leaking issues by passenger floor? I’ve had intermittent leaking onto my front passenger side floor. It doesn’t happen every time it rains, and it also doesn’t seem to do it only in hard driving rains. My car is at the dealership right now, but they have informed me that at this point they can’t find anything. I have double checked to make sure that I don’t leave my window open. Would anybody have a clue as to where the leaking could originate (sometimes it looks like it’s dribbling down the side from under where the glove box meets the door area)?

Window Issues – Megan, I have a 2001 jetta wolfsburg..I just had my right front window fixed. The clips broke I guess and the glass fell down into the door. My local vw shop told me vw should reimburse me..we’ll see. I have had it in the shop 3 or 4 times regarding the ignition coil issue..I had to pay the last time because my warrenty ran out. My dash board also rattles which is very annoying..I have about 40k miles on it. Other than that, my jetta runs pretty decent.

Window Issues – i have a 2000 jetta and had the window clips replaced four times (twice on one window). A friend of mine had the same problem with his golf. He took it to his mechanic and they said it was due to cheap clips. It’s a real pain. I had it happen right before a big storm and was running around trying to tape trash bags over the window of a car that was 3 years old. They won’t charge you for it – i think they may have extended the warrenty

Window Issues – I’ve had the driver’s side window clips replaced either 2 or 3 times, but have had the window fall into the door (or start to fall in, or get about half way and stop) 3 times. On the last occasion, the METAL clips they replaced the cheap plastic ones with broke. I received a letter in the mail about a year and a half ago stating that the window issue would be covered for 7 years. Thour, I recommend checking to see if the air vent cover on your center defroster is broken…I was able to lift it up on one side, and when there was cold air running through that vent, it rattled. They ended up having to replace the entire dashboard. So far, I have had every one of my problems covered under warranty. I just got my jetta back today. They found cause of the leaks. The driver and passenger side sunroof drains were both blocked, and the passenger side drain was defective. Apparently, my car suffered a problem that is common on Passats…I can’t win.

Window Issues – I have a 2000 Passat and the same thing happened to me a few days ago. I contacted VW and they said that they are aware that this is a common occurance, that the clips are not covered a recall. They are covered under the warranty, which was 2years/24000 miles for 2000 models. To make matters worse, the dealerships won’t sell you just the clips, you have to buy the whole window regulator package, which runs around $150 not including labor.

Window Issues – 2 out of the 3 times I had the window fixed, the clips broke and needed to be replaced. It would be interesting to see if they state that I need to change the motor or any other parts besides the clips once I’m out of warranty.
