Dealer Is Great It’s my Car!

I have a 2002 Jetta 1.8T and it has had numerous problems like electrical that has had to be replaced and a hesitation problem with the engine since I bought the vehicle brand new. I must be lucky, besides the problems of the car, the dealership has helped me 100%. They try to fix the car to the best of their ability but still I run into the problem, I now know from reading most of the problems that everyone is having, not only with Jetta’s but Passats also are having the same issues, in some way’s. I’m just glad I’m not alone with these problems. I just wish there was a way for my car to run right, while I still make payments on it. Not all dealerships are bad, it’s just I got the bad pick of the litter. Probably a monday car. Either way, my car is in the shop now for hestiation and the dealership has been more than glad to take care of me. It’s just the other drivers I’m concerned about, when they see my car stalled out in the middle of the intersection, and they are driving full force to hit me. Not all dealers are bad.

Suggestion for VW

VW, your biggest problem is your crappy dealers. Poor management, training, and auditing seem to be the norm.

I will not buy a new VW again unless I can avoid *ever* having to go to one of your dealers for service.

I would like to be able to either do warranty work myself (reimbursed for parts and labor,) or have a shop of my choosing do the work.

An employee at dealer I bought my car from (clearly on purpose) sabotaged it by stuffing a plastic glove into the fuel filler (Classic of Escondido).

Another dealer (Miramar VW - San Diego) I went to to have it fixed smashed the car up by driving it carelessly. When it was repaired after 4 weeks they still failed to find the blockage and returned the car dirty, and with the contents stolen.

I eventually fixed it myself with only 2 hours of work.

Never mind that the car from new rattles like an old school bus, I still like it. It’s the dealers I can’t stand.

Workshop Emission Light and rough idle

I have 2000 Passat that has had the Workshop light notice appear on occasion. At present, the warning is off, but the engine idles rough. By this I mean is that the egines rpm fluctuates from 900 rpm down to 500 rpm or so. I know there has been a warranty extension on the mass airflow senor (7 year, 70k miles). Could this be the problem.

I have to take the vehicle into a dealer without having some reasonable diganosis prior to them messing with it with the vehicle and having them say it is nothing.

2002 Beetle Warranty

I was wondering if anyone knows anything about the 4 year/50,000 mile warranty. I bought a 2002 Beetle at the end of July of 2002, but if I remember correctly, I think my warranty was only three years /36,000 (I’ll have to dig out the paperwork). I have seen quite a few websites saying that 2002 models came with the longer warranty, but I just found a page that said that only cars delivered to the USA after August of 2002 have the longer warranty. What gives??

And furthermore..

I forgot to mention the faulty brake light switch and the automatic window problems and the glove compartment malfunction. Nice work VW. Can’t wait to say bye-bye.

Jetta clutch

Just got my clutch,et al replaced on my leased 2002 Jetta VR6, 46,000 miles on it. The dealer wanted $1800.00, i got it done for $1300. I have never gone through a clutch in my life. Looking over some e-mails I see I am not the first to get scorched paying for a bullshit clutch. My lease is up in a year…good riddance.

Engine Light

I just got my car a week from today and it has been in the shop twice cause of the engine light. The first time, they had to change the ground wire under the battery. The second time it came on (4 days later) it is being left over night. There is some sort of an un-usual problem with the coil for cylinder 1 or something. I have no idea what the hell that is supposed to mean. All I know is that they have to change another part. This is so shit. It is a new car!

Emissions Workshop?

I’ve owned my 2000 Passat since December and about a month after I bought it, the check engine light came on and the display read Emissions Workshop! I called my local dealer and they said that it could be anything from a gas cap not being screwed on tight enough to a vacuum hose. I replaced my gas cap and found a small hole in the vacuum line that runs off of the front/top of the engine, repaired it, reset the computer and a few days later it came on again. I have not noticed any performance or running problems. I had it in for safety and emissions and they said that they reset the computer and the car passed emissions just fine. And then a couple of days later, the light came back on. Any suggestions, short of dropping the cash at a VW dealer?

Window Issues

I have a 2000 Passat and the window clips broke on it the other day. I am being told that I cannot get just the clips and that I have to spend $150+ for the regulator package. Does anyone know if the clips for the Jetta are the same as the ones or interchangable for the Passat? And has this been a common occurance on the Passat like it has been with the Jetta?

CRY ME A RIVER YOU POOR PEOPLE!!

Here is the BOTTOM LINE. You guys listening? VOLKSWAGONS ARE PERFORMACE CARS. BMW’s, Mercedes, Audi’s, Porches, ALL COST ALOT OF MONEY TO MAINTAIN. VW’s are EUROPEAN cars that require EUROPEAN parts that are usually expensive. Maybe if all of you had bought a car that you could afford to maintain, you wouldn’t have had such a negative experience. GO BUY A CHEVY MALIBU IF YOU WANT A RELIABLE, SLOW, BORING CAR.

For the money, VW’s are an excellent choice as compared to buying a 5 series BMW (35-40k$). And you know what? They’re a hell of alot faster. GET OVER THE FACT THAT YOU BOUGHT YOUR VOLKSWAGON BECAUSE YOU FELL IN LOVE WITH THE TRENDY, CUTE COMMERICALS, RATHER OF RESEARCHING YOUR PURCHASE. Thank you, that is all.
