VW Does suck
Great site! I’ve also had problems with VW – they are detailed here.
There are also details about the two class action lawsuits I’m party to against Volkswagen.

VW Does suck – I bought a 1999 Beetle 20 months ago and spent 1700 in repair costs, not to mention the 7000 down payment. I finally traded it in for an SUV and was greatful for the salesman who took it off of my hands. Is there a class action suit for Beetles?

VW Does suck – Nice site, Zach… but I’m upset that this site doesn’t even get a mention!

VW Does suck – Zach
I feel the same way you do. I feel a certain moral obligation to tell people the truth about VWs.
I had a 2000 TDI Beetle. I had countless problems with the car including the famous window problem, failure of the air conditioner pump, and injector failure. All at less than 28,000 miles. Thinking that I had a bad car I traded it for a 2003 GLX Passat Wagon with V6 and 4 Motion. Right from the beginning I had problems with this car. Water leaked into the car. During five trips to the dealer for this particular problem they tore the entire interior of the car out and drilled holes in the floor pan. VWoA refused to buy back the car.
I thought that I had incredibly bad luck to get two lemons in a row until I found out that EVERYONE was having problems with VW.
If I had seen this sight I would have saved myself five years of misery dealing with VW.

VW Does suck – OK then. Why don’t we start with these figures:
Sales of VWs in the US fell for three years in a row. Sales of VWs dropped nearly 50,000 in number from 2003 to 2004, leaving sales of somewhere around 250,000. That is a significant loss of sales.
VWoA’s CEO reported that VWoA lost $1.6 Billion last year.
VW’s quality and first year owner satisfaction are near the bottom of almost everones list.
And it goes on and on.

VW Does suck – And on a more personal note. I had two VW’s in a row that had major problems. At very low mileage. Two lemons in a row. For me that is a 100% lemon rate. What are the odds of getting two lemons in a row? With VW they are significantly higher than almost every other brand.
And, what are the odds that VWoA will make good on their product? The answer to that is the fact that VW’s sales are going down the dumper. The truth is getting out.

VW Does suck – We went through this in another thread, didn’t we? It’s the tail end of a platform generation, sales always go down, especially when the varied competition have released new platforms in the last few years.
And yes, customer satisfaction (or lack thereof) has certainly played a major role in decreased sales as well.
The two combined give VW a net loss that should give them real cause for concern: so enter the new MkV, with its “”trendy”" looks and feature-rich base models (ESP, independent rear suspension) and enticing options (DSG transmission, paddle-shifters, the 2.0T FSI engine).
Will it work? Time will tell.

VW Does suck – Yes we did go through this on another thread. And the general concensus was that it would be absolutely foolish to buy a first year product. Especially a VW. You suggested waiting until the third year of production. That would be wise. Maybe VW will get their massive quality control problem in check by then. Whatever the case, I don’t think that anyone wants to be the guinea pig that tests the new model.

VW Does suck – You and I won’t be, that’s clear enough. But we don’t get to have bragging rights if the MkV turns out to kick butt.

VW Does suck – Everyone is such a strong word.

VW Does suck – You are right , Paul. I forgot that your VWs are perfect. And, I forgot that any VW you have ever dealt with has been perfect. Sorry.
I made this assumption because of the tens of thousands of people that have had defective VWs. And have had poor service. And have been insulted by VWoA when they seek redress. I also made this assumption because I see people complaining about their POS VWs everywhere I look on the web.
I am sure that someone out there, somewhere, has had a perfect VW.

VW Does suck – Quite a few, actually.
It doesn’t mean your voice and the others on this board are irrelevant — it just means that EVERYONE is such a strong word.
Your argument would hold more weight by saying something like 15% of VW customers are dissatisfied with service and reliability, and that 15%, though not a majority, is far too large a percentage to be ignored by VW.
That would capture my attention much more than hyperbole.

VW Does suck – If the MkV makes it, it will be the biggest turnaround in the history of automobiles. After years of not being able to engineer and build a reliable automobile I don’t think its going to happen. As I said before, even the best of companies can have problems with first year products. With VW’s history of producing junk I wouldn’t count on the new platform to be trouble free. I wouldn’t want to be the guinea pig in this case.
