2002 Beetle Warranty - Interesting, so they reduced the powertrain warranty? That's a bad thing for us and a great thing for VW dealers. They'll make a fortune screwing owners for repairs previously covered under warranty. Not to mention that owners will have to bring their cars back when a problem is missed by an incompetent tech.

2002 Beetle Warranty - I think it's more because of their plans to retire the 1.8T and 2.0L engines from the lineup, and retiring a line tends to shorten the warranty on the newer cars.

Next year's models will sport the 2.0L FSI (fuel stratified injection) engine.

2002 Beetle Warranty - Paul,
Are the new engines as powerful as the 1.8T? While I can't wait to get rid of this car, I have to admit that when the car is running it goes!! The turbo lag is only noticable on city streets. At highway speed the acceleration is very impressive and with the Wolfsburg suspension handling is almost perfect. If it were'nt for the frequent visits to the dealer, I'd give this car an excellent rating.

2002 Beetle Warranty - VW a lot of exciting changes in the MkV platform. The FSI engine be used for non-turbo and turbo applications, at 150hp and 200hp, respectively, with improved gas mileage (this is primarily what the FSI part is concerned with, increasing mileage without decreasing power).

They will also sport the new VW DSG (direct shift gearbox), which shifts gears within milliseconds, and independent rear suspension.

2002 Beetle Warranty -
When do those come out? Should I wait and get one of those instead of a 04' model?

2002 Beetle Warranty - Next year.

Again, I would wait till the 2008 model that comes out in spring 2007. Any time a brand new platform, complete with a brand new engine, transmission, and suspension, comes out -- it's best to give it a 2 year shakedown.

That's for any car, not just VW.

Just my own personal take.
