Jetta clutch
Just got my clutch,et al replaced on my leased 2002 Jetta VR6, 46,000 miles on it. The dealer wanted $1800.00, i got it done for $1300. I have never gone through a clutch in my life. Looking over some e-mails I see I am not the first to get scorched paying for a bullshit clutch. My lease is up in a year…good riddance.

Jetta clutch – At 46,000 miles, isn’t this covered by the powertrain warranty? It’s less than 60,000, and so is valid for either the old or new VW warranty.

Jetta clutch – CLUTCH IS ONLY COVERED FOR 12 MONTHS OR 12,000 MILES

Jetta clutch – That depends. Did the clutch fail or wear out?
Premature wear and tear is 12/12.
If it failed (as in, cracked in half), then it’s a powertrain warranty issue.
So the question is, what was wrong with the clutch?

Jetta clutch – By the way, the VR6 clutch is a fairly robust item. Those suffering failures (not wear and tear, but actual failure) are 1.8T cars with the 21lb. dual mass flywheel.
The VR6 clutch is, in comparison, so well respected in its durability and ability to handle greater power that many 1.8T owners who tinker with their cars install the VR6 clutch.
I am one of them.
So my assumption is the clutch was defective and the dealer should honor the powertrain warranty… possibly see if the flywheel has any problems that can cause extreme wear and tear.
