Suggestion for VW
VW, your biggest problem is your crappy dealers. Poor management, training, and auditing seem to be the norm.
I will not buy a new VW again unless I can avoid *ever* having to go to one of your dealers for service.
I would like to be able to either do warranty work myself (reimbursed for parts and labor,) or have a shop of my choosing do the work.
An employee at dealer I bought my car from (clearly on purpose) sabotaged it by stuffing a plastic glove into the fuel filler (Classic of Escondido).
Another dealer (Miramar VW – San Diego) I went to to have it fixed smashed the car up by driving it carelessly. When it was repaired after 4 weeks they still failed to find the blockage and returned the car dirty, and with the contents stolen.
I eventually fixed it myself with only 2 hours of work.
Never mind that the car from new rattles like an old school bus, I still like it. It’s the dealers I can’t stand.

Suggestion for VW – That problem is endemic of virtually all car companies.
For your area, try Circle VW. Or browse this list.

Suggestion for VW – My car rattles as well. I have had so many warranty items fixed on the inside that everything they’ve taken out and put back in isn’t quite tight enough. My door rattles (from having the window repaired 3 times). I think something in my dashboard rattles and my ashtray cover rattles and squeaks. I just try and turn my radio up or ignore it as best I can….I can’t deal with trying to have the dealer find and fix all of the rattles.

Suggestion for VW – Yeah, my Golf rattles behind the center vent, both doors, and new today somewhere near the right rear seat.
I’ve tried to fix the vent squeek numerous times but it keeps coming back. I just can’t be bothered now – I just accept that it’s a poorly made car.

Suggestion for VW – Funny. I personally think they are well-built. Every time I get in a Toyota or Honda I feel like I’m sitting inside a box of sheet metal.

Suggestion for VW – You must have crappy dealers on the west coast. In the midwest, namely the Milwaukee area they are great. The few problems I have had with my TDI Jetta have been handled very well with the dealership I go to.

Suggestion for VW – Well, in comparison my 2000 Nissan Xterra has 50,000 miles on it and not a single rattle.
The VW has good quality parts, it’s just that they didn’t do a good job with the NHV refinement and production engineering.
Toyotas in general, reek of engineering quality throughout. The styling however I can do without.
