I just don’t understand why VW only recalls parts on certain models. The same thing happened with the coil packs.
My 2002 GTI 337 (1.8T engine) doesn’t qualify for the brake light switch recall. However, it has gone out more than once already.
I’m out over $100.00 for the repairs since VW won’t consider my car under the recall. This just makes me even more mad after the numerous times I had my faulty clutch fixed and the diverter valve replaced over and over again. I hate my car!!
All, I need some urgent feedback. I was supposed to pick my GTI up from Lewisville VW today. I was contacted 10 minutes ago and given some bad news. I was told that during a final test, they realized that the “”Comfort Control Module”" was “”on the way out”". Good news was that the Gearbox and Clutch was going to cost $3400 instead of the $4300 original estimate. Bad news is the Comfort Control Module is $50 labor and over $300 for the part. I know nothing about cars but my question is this: if the comfort control module is an electronic component, surely it either works or it doesn’t. How do they know it’s on it’s way out. Is it more likely that they have damed it in some way?? Of course I’ll be writing again to the customer care line but so far, that keep upholding their line that the car is out of warranty and there is nothing they can do. I would love to here from so of the respected posters.
Thanks, MICHAEL.
Does anyone out there have a Passat wagon- 98 with problems- This car i own has ghosts- it unlocks and locks itself without me even touching a button, beyond that I have taken it in to the dealers 3 times to have the locks redone - and time $150.00 a pop- the same thing happens- last time i paid to have all of my remotes fixed - this was in April of 04, it is now July and none of them work again. Does anyone out there have this problem. Also, i know there was a recall on the tierods for this particular model, now my mechanics says that all of my arms are broken - this is going to cost $2000.00 to replace- this car is hunk of !$@%@!- I got totally !@#!$#@! by the dealer who now claims they will not help, i am a second owner. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I need some feedback from you VW owners out there. I have a 2002 Golf GLS with 28000 miles. I’m the second owner. It has been in the shop about four times already. Mainly two big problems. Transmission is clunky and rough. It shifts badly. Sometimes it is rough going into first gear, sometimes into second, when accelerating, when decelerating, when putting it into park. Today it was so rough shifting into second I became concerned it was going to break down on me. It had been in the shop last week for this and other problems. The lovely VW dealer said that they could not find anything in the road test and no codes showed in whatever diagnostic test they performed. I need help with that, and with another problem. My car stalls. But before it stalls it shakes violently. It has happened while am parked, and while in first gear.
Since am going this far, I will tell you about a ticking noise from the passenger side of the engine.
And did I mention the dealer wont replace the window control (recall) unless the window falls into the door!?!?!
Help me folks. I can’t even sell this car with this transmission problem.
Anyone have advice on how I might go about diagnosing and fixing a problem with my vent controls? My ventilation fan has been intermittently unresponsive to the vent dial recently, and the other day I found the dial was hot to the touch. Shortly after I found out the fan cuts out on the highest setting (#4).
So my 1994 Jetta was in for service…about which I could write a long story…and when I got the car back the radio reads “SAFE.” I remembered, from this happening several years ago, that I had a special code I needed to input. Got the code…don’t remember how to input it. Called my local VW dealer and a service rep told me to hold down the MODE & SCAN buttons at the same time. Then “1000″ will show on the screen and I can use my pre-set station bottons to put in the code. Sounds great, but I am holding down the MODE & SCAN buttons, SAFE starts to blink then stops blinking…but I never get “1000″. What am I doing wrong?
So here’s my story. 2 1/2 years ago I bought a new 2002 VW GTI VR6 from Metro VW in Irving Texas. Had the issue with the window regulator and had it fixed under warranty. All in all was very happy with it. However, on Tuesday, I was driving to work. As I pulled away from a stop sign, I heard a loud grating noise and the steering wheel pulled to the side. I pulled up to my parking space at work and whammo, it happened again. I had the car towed to VW in Lewisville. Wednesday morning I got a call from them. The Differential Locking Pin had come out and the gear box was cooked. The estimate was $3700 plus tax. He also suggested changing the clutch for a further $420. Wow. The trade in value is probably $10K and they want $4200 to get it working.
I called the VW America Customer Care line. I explained the situation. I was looking for them to pick up the cost of the Gear Box as the Dealership is telling me that the labor is just $650. I spoke to 2 people there. They refused to doing any thing. I sent them an email and this morning, I had a call from them. The guy explained that $4,200 sounded a little high and that the labor elelment must of been high. What a prick. I told them that if they were not able to do anything that I would spend the rest of my life in a relentless quest to tell people about my experience and to discourage as many people as possible from buying a VW. So here I am. This is the first day of a long journey but thaks for creating a site that allows us to get it off our chest and inform people about our experience.
Sure, we all sound a little bitter but guess what, I am bitter. I was as vocal a supporter as any car copmpany would want. I wouldn’t let anyone buy a car without throwing them my keys and telling them how great VW’s are. They suck. 61000 miles and $4200 bill. It’s unbelieveable. Any way there it is. I’m not showing my e-mail address as it’s a work’s address but if any one has any questions, please post and I’ll send it to you.
Hi all, this is my first time posting. So, my question is: should I even be remotely considering buying a 2003 Jetta wolfsburg 1.8T? I test drove one and I absolutely loved it! It has 28K and the dealers ASKING price is $15,500, which I think is a pretty good deal.
To be brief: I have found nothing else in this price range that offers nearly as much. And, it still has 2 to 3 years of factory warranty. So the questions are as follows:
1. How good is the warranty anyway? Does it cover interior and things like the clutch (which I have heard has problems)
2. Did VW really solve alot of their mechanical problems with the 2003 and later models?
3. This posting is on a site that is dedicated to people who have been screwed by VW. Honestly, exactly how large of a grain of salt should I be taking with all this info?
4. What surprises should I prepare for, recalls, standard “”run of the mill problems.”" etc.? Are the windows going to drop out?
I really loved the car and I am dying to buy it. Much of what I have read, however, leads me to believe that I am in for a huge headache and will be broke in about a year. Any advice?
Thanks!
Have waited now to reach 8100 miles hoping this will get better. I have actual mileage since delivey of 12.5 mpg.
The brochure the salesman gave me shows 18 mpg. What a lie to sell gass thirsty SUVs.
I will take them to court on this real soon
