94 jetta tdi alarmed
good day all, I hope someone can help???
Went out yesterday morning at 7AM checked the oil and added a quart,(deisel uses some after 162,000)then proceeded to call my daughter to drive her to work, got in the car, leaving the drivers door open as I started the car (habit), turned the key and nothing happened,,,few minutes pass as the fog and disbelif subside and the alarm arms itself (door still open)Holy sheep dip, What the fudge is this I wonder,,,,check the fuse box, found 50 amp fuse that the VW guy says is the “”main fuse”" blown, get new one at car quest bercause VW doesn’t have. back to the car,,,now I know that something usually causes a fuse to blow so I got two,,,,hopefully I would hear/see/smell what happens when the first one blows,,,,it didn’t blow…car still arms itself after a few minutes of the key being in the ignition (left in or taken out…and I hadn’t noticed but the right rear window goes down after some period all by itself…called the vw roadside assistance number in the book….didn’t have this service but I thought maybe the would give me a clue….he told me to use the key to lock and unlock the car 10 times and this would “”disengage the starter from the alarm system”" am I niave or is that double speak?
anyway tried what he suggested and you guessed it nothing happened….
Help!
4th of july and my liberty is restricted….
Thanks for any help…Taramack

94 jetta tdi alarmed – Try disconnecting the battery, this resets the alarm.
A word of advice, if you disconnet the battery too long your radio may lock up. You should have been given a radio unlock code when you purchased the car. Make sure you have it before disconnecting the battery. It may not lock if you disconnect and reconnect quickly (within a minute), but better to have the code in case the radio does lock.

94 jetta tdi alarmed – Thanks paultakeda,
I do have the code but….I was informed that although the radio/tape is a VW original it is not the one that came with this particular car(cd player model removed somewhere in its history) I have the original code and the new one. The new one worked in the past but now the first digit is stuck on one,,,,for that matter I just realized the radio doesn’t even come on “”safe”" now when I turn on the ignition switch. I think this happened after I put in the new fuse…. Prior to the changing of the fuse, I did disconect the battery for about thirty seconds thinking that this would do something but it didn’t seem to have any effect.
I was thinking of diconecting the battery for 24 hours, because I had heard somewhere in the past that if the power was disconected for 24 hours the computer would reset itself(?). Do you know if this is true?
Anyway, thanks for the advice…
