Resetting Radio Alarm

So my 1994 Jetta was in for service…about which I could write a long story…and when I got the car back the radio reads “SAFE.” I remembered, from this happening several years ago, that I had a special code I needed to input. Got the code…don’t remember how to input it. Called my local VW dealer and a service rep told me to hold down the MODE & SCAN buttons at the same time. Then “1000″ will show on the screen and I can use my pre-set station bottons to put in the code. Sounds great, but I am holding down the MODE & SCAN buttons, SAFE starts to blink then stops blinking…but I never get “1000″. What am I doing wrong?

    Resetting Radio Alarm – What does your manual say about resetting the radio?

    You might have to press and hold down a different button.

    Resetting Radio Alarm – My manual doesn’t even mention having to “reset” the radio.

    Resetting Radio Alarm – Yep, I sure have. I’ve tried it so many different ways I’m beginning to wonder if I’ve locked it up. Maybe on top of the $2,300 I’ve spent on this car in the last 6 weeks, I’ll have to go to the VW dealer or a car audio place to get the radio reset.

    Resetting Radio Alarm – There’s no “”locked forever”" mode.

    Keep the key turned so power is fed to the radio for over 1 hour. After that, it’ll let you try to input the code again.

    Give that a try, see if “”0000″” or “”1000″” shows up.

    Resetting Radio Alarm – i checked with service for this year model thats right, mode and scan for 10 secs. maybe your code is wrong. maybe the radio’s power keeps getting disconnected some how. does it come on then go off? or never blink at all. you also need to turn it off then wait 30 secs. after reseting the code. then turn it on….think of it as a hard re-boot on a cpu.
