Brake Light Switch Recall

I just don’t understand why VW only recalls parts on certain models. The same thing happened with the coil packs.

My 2002 GTI 337 (1.8T engine) doesn’t qualify for the brake light switch recall. However, it has gone out more than once already.

I’m out over $100.00 for the repairs since VW won’t consider my car under the recall. This just makes me even more mad after the numerous times I had my faulty clutch fixed and the diverter valve replaced over and over again. I hate my car!!

Brake Light Switch Recall – If you truly hate it, sell it.

The diverter valve part number you want ends with 710N. This won’t fail.

Recalls are pertinent to certain models when a particular part is specific to that model OR a batch of defective parts were used in manufacturing that specific model.

For example: coilpacks were not defective across the board; a bad batch was made by Bosch and these found their way into specific model year cars.

Brake Light Switch Recall – Does your car have more that 50,000 miles on it? If it does not then the repair should be covered under warranty. Do you happen to use a locking device that goes around the brake pedal and locks to the steering wheel? If you do then that lock will break the switch by pulling the pedal up. If the switch was replaced the first time less than 12 months or 12,000 miles ago the part should be under warranty also.

Brake Light Switch Recall – Paul, you’re pissing me off. Again.

“”The diverter valve part number you want ends with 710N. This won’t fail.”"

Like it’s her responsibility to install the proper part. For themoney, shouldn’t VW install the “”won’t fail”" part??

. That’s so laughable it only reinforces the need for this site.

Brake Light Switch Recall – The point is, some dealerships try to get away with an older valve and when it fails next make sure they put in the 710N.

Why would this piss you off that I provide the right part number that the dealer should install?

Brake Light Switch Recall – Paul, thanks for your “”nice”" comments.

I would love to sell my car, but I can’t afford to at the moment.

I originally posted this topic because I didn’t understand why a simple part couldn’t be recalled on any model that seems to be having problems. I checked on another website and lots of people are having problems with their brake light switch and it isn’t part of the recall. And I added the other info on my car because it has been in the shop at least every other month for something related to the diverter valve or faulty clutch. And before anyone says anything, I have been driving standards for over 10 years and never had any clutch problems until now.

Brake Light Switch Recall – To reply to Mike….

Yes, my car has over 50k now. The part fails at around 15k every time. That is what is so annoying. It is just over the 12k warranty on the part.

    :)

Brake Light Switch Recall – If the clutch keeps failing then there is something else wrong that the service department is not addressing. A flywheel that does not fully engage causes premature wear on the clutch, for example.

If my first reply was considered curt (as in, “”nice”"), than I apologize. That was not my intention. Sometimes I simply provide information in a succint manner because, frankly, there are a lot of posts on this board and even more to the point, I DO have a day job. ;)

    But in a good way.
