My 2002 VW Newbeetle GLS TDI SUCKS

My beetle sucks. I’m going to try to sell it. Hopefully I can find someone that doesn’t yet realize that VW sucks.

We’ve had numerous electrical problems that started a week after we got the car.

- brake module bad
- sunroof controller connection bad
- ignition module bad
- turn signal socket bad
- front wheel bearings bad
- coolant light blinking, but VW says nthings wrong
- wouldn’t come out of park
- rear hatch won’t latch in winter

We tried to buy one originally and was sold a car that had been vandalized at the dealer (Fitzgerald in Frederick, MD) and we weren’t told. We found glass under the seat and started to notice scratches and other damage. We ended up taking back and the dealer reluctantly found us another lemon. Also, while we still had the 1st car the whole dash and keys had to be replaced.

We’ve had many rental cars during our VW experience. Fortunately they were free from the dealer.

My 2002 VW Newbeetle GLS TDI SUCKS – Yeah. Bad dealer. If you want another NB, I suggest going to another dealer for it — this guy sounds like bad news, particularly for future service.

My 2002 VW Newbeetle GLS TDI SUCKS – I finally have to chime in after viewing this site for a couple of months. I have to disagree with you Paul, you always seem blame most things on “bad dealers” Even the worst dealers in the world can’t cause all those failures listed by Steve. A lot of this stems from bad design and bad quality control from VW itself. Please quit blindly defending everything VW cause it’s getting sickening, like my piece of junk 97 Passat!

My 2002 VW Newbeetle GLS TDI SUCKS – Isn’t it the responsibility of the dealer to inform you that a car was vandalized or in an accident prior to closing the deal? To me, that is just good business practice.

According to Steve, the dealer failed to disclose this important information during the sale. This dealer doesn’t rate high on my list.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not advocating VW’s as the most reliable cars on the market. I have a ‘00 TDI riddled with electrical gremlins. It is disgusting.
