Cracked Oil Pan 2002 GTI VR6

So I took my 2002 GTI VR6 in to DAR Cars College Park VW dealer in Maryland for an oil change. Shortly after I received a call from my friendly service advisor informing me that my oil pan was cracked & leaking fluid. I was also told that because it was called by an external force, it would not be covered under my Bumper-Bumper certified used warranty.

I am still running stock suspension & drive on pretty normal streets. I called VWoA & received a polite brush-off from customer service. I asked the rep if I should expect to take my car in every week to see if my oil pan is has cracked again, but she wouldn’t dignify that question with a responce.

Is it not reasonable to expect things like that not to break under normal driving conditions? I don’t recall hitting ANYTHING that should have caused damage underneath my car.

I filed a complain with the BBB & am waiting to hear back. I’m not too optimistic. I saw a post on VWVORTEX stating this was pretty common & it spoke of a class action suit being filed. I guess there are many owners who had the same thing happen except they wound up losing all their oil & blowing their engines.

Cracked Oil Pan 2002 GTI VR6 – A lot of Vortexers also tend to lower their rides, and therefore causing far more traumatic damage when something is hit on the road.

You need to go to the dealer and request them to point out the crack to you. How did it crack? Was the plastic lower deflector in place? Find out how they came to that decision and inspect the car yourself.

Cracked Oil Pan 2002 GTI VR6 – same problem with my 2000 beetle after many other electrical issues
    and oil consumption issue, finally
a cracked oil pan caused by a whatever! $450 to replace seems steep?

Cracked Oil Pan 2002 GTI VR6 – Charles, you paid $450 as well? I also thought that was a little steep. When they told me they wanted to bill me for 3 hours labor I laughed out loud. My dealer in MD wound up charging me about $450 after tax (with an oil change).

Sadly, I did not inspect the cracked part. I would have loved to have seen the “”impact”" that caused it to crack. I doubt that the guys at my dealership would be dishonest about that kind of thing.
