Oil guzzling 2001 Golf
I just bought this 2001 Golf GL 2.0(re-certified), with 78,800 kms on it. I researched it before and read about potential oil guzzling problems on some. This may be due due to improper assembly of the piston rings, or whatever. I am not worried about why it uses oil, I just want the f#$@ing thing fixed. It used 1 litre/quart of oil just over 1000 kms (600 miles) of driving. The VW dealership said you have to come in and do an oil consumption log. They say that 2000kms or over for a litre for every litre of oil is acceptable. They said it has to be logged over 3 top ups!!! What a bunch of bull@#$t. My brother has a 1992 Acura Legend, it has 338,000 kms on it. He tops it up a little after driving every 10,000 kms!!! That is just one example. Not happy. Will keep updated.

Oil guzzling 2001 Golf – The dealership will test it three times and if it shows that oil consumption is well beyond spec they rebuild the engine for free. Why not go ahead and proceed?

Oil guzzling 2001 Golf – By “”rebuild”" yu mean “”do a ring job”".
It worked for me, but should not have been necessary.

Oil guzzling 2001 Golf – It shouldn’t, but they at least are doing the repair for free, which is responding to a consumer issue.
The venerable 2.0L won’t be showing up on the MkV, it’s essentially retired. But hey, at least they cover this one particular problem.
