Clutch Issues GTI VR6

My ‘02 GTI GLX has just under 30K miles & I’m taking it in for the 30K scheduled maintenance later this week. I’ve had it for about a year & it’s still under the certified pre-owned warranty.

Last winter I had problems with the clutch sticking to the floor once the temp began to drop(I live in DC). I asked my dealer to look at it & they told me everything was according to spec. but they told me they lubed the clutch. The fix helped to some extent but I still had to be careful until the car was fully warmed. It’s getting colder now, I think it’s going to be an issue again.

Has anyone else had issues with this?

Also, it may be all in my head, but I feel like the clutch isn’t engaging as early as before…no slipping, but could I be due for a new clutch already??? I know 30K is not unheard of, but if I’m going to replace the clutch I think I want to go with a stronger aftermarket clutch & have the luxury of shopping around to find someone who will do it for a reasonable price instead of having to get towed to the dealer & beg for mercy.

Any thoughts?

Clutch Issues GTI VR6 – Is there anyone out there who has had problems with a clutch sticking to the floor when it gets cold outside? (Below 30F.)

Clutch Issues GTI VR6 – Two possibilities:

    1. hydraulic fluid is getting tacky in the cold (not impossible but unlikely)

    2. Clutch spring needs to be adjusted (more likely)

Clutch Issues GTI VR6 – By clutch spring I mean the pedal assembly.

Clutch Issues GTI VR6 – You know, what, we really need an edit button.

    2) Clutch cable needs adjusting (more likely)

    3) Pedal assembly spring needs adjusting (possible)

Clutch Issues GTI VR6 – Read my post on “”The VW Experience”"

My experience was similar to yours.

My dealer’s response was: “”they all do that when it gets cold”"

Clutch is covered up to 12K and that is all.

    Good Luck!
