2002 Passat oil pump problems

Add me to the list of disgruntled 2002 Passat owners. this car is such a pos. this passat has only 30l miles on it and the oil pump is shot – BIG SURPRISE – at our cost. KUNN VW in Tampa refuses to fix it at their cost. How in the world does a car with 30k miles lose an oil pump? Kunn is claiming its was over milegae on an oil change, therefore voiding the warranty. This is my girlfriends car- not mine. I prefer BMW’s – for a reason! When their cars break they fix them. No BS. VW is bringing down the rep of german engineering. I now place them in the same catagory as Kia and Datsun. this car has been in multiple times for ignition coils blowing, clogged fuel system, leaving us stranded in the ghetto at 2am! New cars are not supposed to do this. To back up our claims of shotty engineering and service we recently recieved our class action check for the ignition coils. VW used to mean quality cars. This is very dissappointing. I will NEVER consider VW again! NEVER!

Sorry, Another Oil Consumption Question

Forgive me for asking another oil consumption question.

Are there any official sources that document the problems of excess oil consumption on Jettas with the 2.0 manufactured in 2002? My Jetta is consuming consistently over the life of the car about 0.5 litres of oil every 2000 kilometers. Outside of people I know who have very old vehicles with leaky gaskets, I have never heard of anyone ever having to top up oil even remotely to this extent in between oil changes!

Thanks

Lorne

Haunted GTI?

Tis the season and how do I know? Well, the battery on my GTI is draining for no reason. It has done this twice since I bought it new in 2001. Oddly, I seem to have a car problem every December! I have also noticed that the car “locks” itself with and without the keys in it. Has anyone else experienced this? Hopefully, I will only need to replace the battery and not something more expensive.

Ignition Coil Pack

Last January I had a bad ignition coil on my ‘02 GTI VR6. I am under the impression it was replaced under a “silent recall.” Apparently there were not enough parts available to issue a full recall. My dealership replaced the bad coil, & gave me a loaner free of charge. I’m still a little pissed that it was a known issue & I wasn’t notified in advance(costing me an hour of waiting for a tow in the cold). Luckily I had a loaner & my car was fixed promptly with $0 out-of-pocket expense.

Friday night, I’m pretty sure it was an ignition coil that failed again. Just like before, I sat in the cold for over an hour waiting for a tow.

Enough whining. Here is my question:

Where does the responsibility for having warranty work completed lie? I’m pretty sure I recently saw a post somewhere stating that all coils would be replaced on the affected engines. My dealer only replaced 1 (this was before the recall). Should I have gotten a letter from VWoA telling me to go to my dealer & have the ignition coils replaced? Should my service manager have mentioned it when I was in for my regularly scheduled maintenance? Am I at fault because I didn’t go & insist on having them all replaced?

What is the normal procedure for VW recall proceedings?

Jettas In The Cold

Ah yes, with the onset of the cold weather, I am once again reminded of the high quality German engineering that went into the design of my Jetta!

Its only the first snow fall and it isnt really all that bad as far as accumulation and temperature go, but the doors on my wagon have frozen shut.

I have never experienced this with any car I have ever owner, yet the Jetta does it all the time.

Anybody else ever experienced this, or am I just lucky?

I have been told that coating the weather stripping with silicone spray will help an plan to do this on Saturday. The thing is, why should I have to. Ive never had to take this precaution before and cant understand why this car freezes shut on a regular basis.

Cant wait for the warm weather to return so I can hate it less!

Leaking coolant

i have looked at alot of sites to try to determine what is going on with our jetta wagon TDI 2004.

the coolant container has been leaking coolant “”somewhere”", first we thought into the engine, got the car towed they said they could find no trace of coolant/water in the engine, keep driving come back for pressure test…..

the problem continues to get worse over the next two weeks….
the pressure test shows nothing….keep driving the car they say….

now the coolant has to be filled every 3 days…i’m not joking….i have an hour commute so we drive alot, hense “”let’s get a diseal!”"….

the dealership said that they wanted to call VW international to see if they know what to do, that was 5 days ago…last night the engine light came on, called to get it taken in, they cannot fit us in, keep driving, car died last night towed to dealership….

i’m really dissapointed in the “”drive in until it strands you”" mentality, i have a 2 yr old and i wanted a reliable car not this….

i cannot find anyone else who is having this problem, at this point i am looking up the lemon law since we just bought the car….does anyone have a clue?….i just had to vent this out….i am a really patient person but this is taxing me….

2000 Jetta burning oil

I’ve just been informed that the catalytic converter needs to be replaced on my 2000 Jetta. The cause of this is that my car is burning oil. VW customer service has said that since I’m outside of the federal government’s warranty, I’m responsible for replacing the catalytic converter and that there is nothing VW can do. They also said that it’s within reason that I replace approx. 1 quart of oil per 1000 miles but that I still need to change the oil. That does not actually make sense to me, unless it is also okay that I go for a certain amount of time without oil between recommended changes. Has anyone else had a problem with this? What you have done? Any satisfaction with VW?

Known problems and fixes for them.

here is a list of problems with my 2001 wolfsburg jetta and things i have done to fix them. Lets keep all replys to new info that has not been listed or to alternative ways to fix an already listed fix to a problem.

Problems:
1)bad sensor cluster.
2)3 bad o2 sensors.
3)bad temp sensor.
4)bad diverter valve.
5)bad fuel pressur regulater.
6)3 bad window regs.
7)interior peeling.
8)4 bad coil packs.
9)missing mounts for front brake lines to mount to struts.
10)missing bracket to stop coil packs from popping of spark plugs.
11)spring in cup holders so they do not pop out any more.
12)no way to replace windshield wipers with wiper spoiler so they still work above 60 mph.
13)air bags did not go off in accident.
14)seatbelt did not lock in accident
15)1 key went bad a year and a half after purchase of car(tryed reprograming.

Fixes:
1)dealer replace cluster after about 10 visites to service department.
2)replaced as they went bad.
3)replaced
4)replaced with a turbo xess raceing bypass valve(great part)
5)replaced with a 4bar because the 3 bar caused the car to run lean always. tryed 4 bar and fixed bad valve plus fixed running lean problem.
6)had replaced with new window reg design.
7)still no fix found
8)had replaced. questioning if they where really bad or if #10 was the problem all along.
9)had my ASE certified tech the builds race cars make custom mounts.
10)again had my ASE certified tech that builds race cars make a custom brushed aluminum mount.
11)still not fixed. but a new cup hold should fix problem.
12)rain x windshield and use rain x washer fluid.
13)not fixed still working on that.
14)not fixed still working on that.
15)get new key for $180 dollars.

that is all i can remember right now but i am sure there are more i will just have to add them later as i think of them.

If you are interested in the custom made mounts when i get back to F.L. and get my car back from the body shop i can take picks and post how to make part or you can buy them from my friend and install them. i would recomend the coil pack mount to anyone with a 1.8T vw says that you must use stock plugs to stop coil packs from popping of plugs. funny the stock plugs are bosh and i have bosh platinum 4’s and still had problem.
