Known problems and fixes for them.
here is a list of problems with my 2001 wolfsburg jetta and things i have done to fix them. Lets keep all replys to new info that has not been listed or to alternative ways to fix an already listed fix to a problem.
Problems:
1)bad sensor cluster.
2)3 bad o2 sensors.
3)bad temp sensor.
4)bad diverter valve.
5)bad fuel pressur regulater.
6)3 bad window regs.
7)interior peeling.
8)4 bad coil packs.
9)missing mounts for front brake lines to mount to struts.
10)missing bracket to stop coil packs from popping of spark plugs.
11)spring in cup holders so they do not pop out any more.
12)no way to replace windshield wipers with wiper spoiler so they still work above 60 mph.
13)air bags did not go off in accident.
14)seatbelt did not lock in accident
15)1 key went bad a year and a half after purchase of car(tryed reprograming.
Fixes:
1)dealer replace cluster after about 10 visites to service department.
2)replaced as they went bad.
3)replaced
4)replaced with a turbo xess raceing bypass valve(great part)
5)replaced with a 4bar because the 3 bar caused the car to run lean always. tryed 4 bar and fixed bad valve plus fixed running lean problem.
6)had replaced with new window reg design.
7)still no fix found
8)had replaced. questioning if they where really bad or if #10 was the problem all along.
9)had my ASE certified tech the builds race cars make custom mounts.
10)again had my ASE certified tech that builds race cars make a custom brushed aluminum mount.
11)still not fixed. but a new cup hold should fix problem.
12)rain x windshield and use rain x washer fluid.
13)not fixed still working on that.
14)not fixed still working on that.
15)get new key for $180 dollars.
that is all i can remember right now but i am sure there are more i will just have to add them later as i think of them.
If you are interested in the custom made mounts when i get back to F.L. and get my car back from the body shop i can take picks and post how to make part or you can buy them from my friend and install them. i would recomend the coil pack mount to anyone with a 1.8T vw says that you must use stock plugs to stop coil packs from popping of plugs. funny the stock plugs are bosh and i have bosh platinum 4’s and still had problem.

Known problems and fixes for them. – i guess no one has any unresolved problems they might want fixed. be my guest to take your car back to the dealership again. i guess they are not as bad as you all make them sound. i have found that other people that have had the problem before me have helped me get my car back on the road. the only thing the dealer ever fixed on my car was the sensor cluster but they did fail to clear the code from my ecu. otherwise it was my friend that is an ASE certified tech that fixed my car, with some good info from other vw owners. have fun at the dealer.

Known problems and fixes for them. – i am the original owner i chiped the car at about 5,000 miles. it was chiped for a 3 bar but found it was running lean in the high rpm’s. the spring top pop the front cup holder out when you push on it.
above 60 the wiper no longer makes contact with the windshield. there was no way to remove the spoiler from the stock drivers side one . that is what forces the wiper to not get lift because of the shape of are windshields. not complaining about the shape though. are cars are very airodynamic. $180 is for a new key. the battery died on that one, so they say,and there is no way to replace it, so they say. all the rubberized interior pieces are peeling.

Known problems and fixes for them. – The rubberized paint peels, period. Personally, I think they should never have bothered with it. The New Beetle only uses it for the door handles, which thankfully, if you really cared, can be had for $12 apiece. Most folks I know just leave it be, or remove it completely. But yet, bad choice on their part there.
I didn’t know about the wipers… they work pretty well on the NB, but then again, with that huge curved windshield the wipers are completely different from the Golf/Jetta.

Known problems and fixes for them. – ya i started just peeling the rest off. almost have that complete. and if anyone has staining problems like i do. oxyclean has stuff for your car that works great. it even got out the dealerships techs grease stains from my seats and door.

Known problems and fixes for them. – 1. That’s a rare one.
2. That’s a common one.
3. The new one should have a green plastic top instead of a black one. I replaced mine before it went bad after reading about the tendency for the black one to sour. The part was $5 and took five minutes to pop in.
4. The current DV used ends in part number 710N and no longer fails like the old one (710A or 710). Any 2003MY or higher has the new DV. An aftermarket one is a fine alternative if you want to spend the extra money — I prefer diaphragm-type DVs (like the stock one), and have a Greddy Type-S with DV adapter.
5. Odd. Did you buy the car used? Perhaps the previous owner chipped the car for 4bar?
6. Anyone who has this problem should be aware that VW has an extended warranty on this part — replacement/repair is free.
7. Which interior part?
8. 2001 MY, meaning your car may have had bad coilpacks. A general recall was issued for this MY and the coilpacks replaced for free. Mine were fine, but the dealership replaced them anyway just in case.
9. Hmm.. factory assembly line procotol appears to have some problems down in Puebla.
10. See 9.
11. Spring? Describe this innovation, please. My rear one gets popped out everytime one of my passengers doesn’t swing their foot high enough when exiting or entering.
12. They weren’t working above 60mph? In what way?
13. Actionable failure.
14. See 13.
15. $180!? That’s highway robbery for a key reprogramming!
