Sealed Transmission

All I want to know is why is it that they call the transmission “”sealed w/ no maintenance required”" but it needs work after the warranty has expired. I have a 2002 Jetta TDI that is sitting at the dealer b/c they want $5000 to put a new transmission in . They told me that my pan had metal shavings and pieces of a gear in it. I haven’t been up to see it.
Any ideas about what to do? They don’t seem to care to help me one bit. I took it up there because I could move the gear shift to reverse, press on the gas, and it wouldn’t move. Went fine forward. By the way, it’s an automatic.

Passat Roof Leak

97 Passat Wagon - no sunroof. Large puddle behind driver every time it rains. I’m assuming no warranty. Any ideas how to fix?
Thanks.

Jetta 2004 Special Edition SNRF Leak

I had the worst nightmare experience at New Country VW in Greenwich, CT. I discovered a water leak in my Jetta at the base of the passenger side A pillar where water would subsequently pool into the passegner(and later driver’s side) foot wells. I brought the car in for service and 3 weeks later the car is stillin shambles! They had to replace the carpet and, in doing so, tried to deliver the car to me in sub-standard condition after the serice was completed improperly. They failed to replace the plastic seat rail covers with new parts and literally ‘placed’ the old ones back without mounting them or fastening them…the worst part of it all is that after three long disappointing weeks the car is still in disrepair and is STILL leaking. VW service has the car now and need to replace the roof liner and sunroof control console. They are being better about it now, but over the past three weeks have been DEPLORABLE!!! I’ll update soon.

VW ridiculous parts pricing of late.

I went to a VW dealer last week to get a replacement antenna mast for my 97 B4 Passat, cause I’m getting embarrased to drive the car with the antenna spring already exposed and the rubber sleeve peeling and flaking away.
The guy behind the counter punched it up into his computer and told me, “”I got it, but you’re not going to like what the price is. I thought to myself, it can’t be that bad, after all it’s just the mast and not the amplified base. It’s only a rubber covered fiberglass rod with some wire wound up it’s legnth. So he goes “”$53.00!”" He didn’t look suprised when I said “”That’s ridiculous!”" I then proceeded to ask how much would a replacement interior rear view mirror cost for my car cause my mirror recently decided to fall apart and fall off it’s ball joint while I was driving. He looks it up and goes “”$135.00….before tax!”" Before I could comment again, he goes “”Yeah…Volkswagen has been crazy about their parts pricing lately.”" I priced some parts about a year ago, and I swear, they were close to just half of what these latest quotes were. It’s just another hit on Volkswagen customers that keeps them from driving or enjoying their cars.
I went straight to the Honda dealer next door and bought myself an antenna mast for an S2000, which costs just $28.00 OTD!, (Thank you Honda!) Looks better and gets better reception than the Fu@bahhh rat tail antenna mast that Volkswagen uses. The rearview mirror is a bigger problem. I looked through the internet for an aftermarket alternative. What’s silly is, for around the same 135 bucks that Volkswagen wants for their stone age looking, chintzy peice of junk mirror, I could get a much better mirror with map lights and auto dimming features and doesn’t look like it came from a Trabant. At around 98 bucks I could get a simpler one with just auto dimming!
I guess they want us all to pay for all those brake light switches, control arms, coolant bottles, ignition switches, sludged up 1.8s, rear brake discs, window regulators, oil coolers, seat heaters, water pumps, interior heater cores, cracked fog lamp lenses and ignition coils that they had to eat these last few years, by charging these premiums on their cheapest of parts!

Want to tell of my vw horror story

My Volkswagen is horrible. Not only does it watch me while I sleep, it breathes really hard. In addition to these characteristics, my 1989 Golf also drinks straight from the milk cartoon which isn’t all that bad until I learned that it has a nasty case of multiple cold-sores on its mouth. Also this one time I came home early and caught it watching its massive collection of porn. Gay porn.

My Golf ruined my whole entire summer last year. I took it New York City to visit what America affectionately calls the “”Big Apple.”" While there, my Golf developed a horrible addiction to heroin. Not just any heroin, but the kind you can smoke. Never heard of it you say? Neither had I until I found my Golf shivering naked in the bathroom corner of my hotel room. A few days later while walking in Central Park, I caught my Golf on its knees performing services that I dare not speak of to Bob the park service manager in hopes of satisfying its newly acquired drug habit.

My 1989 Volkswagen Golf sucks. Not just sucks as a car, but sucks balls as well.

It’s still ugly, but it’s safer.

MkV Jetta gets top side-crash rating.

The Camry is second, so long as you have the optional side airbags installed.

But yeah… still ugly.

Scheduled 40K Svc.

So, my ‘02 GTI GLX is quickly approaching 40K miles & I’m about to schedule my the required service at my local stealership. Any thoughts on what I should expect to be paying for the 40K service on my VR6? I know it is supposed to be a “”major”" service, I’m guessing it’ll be around $400? Anyone want to respond with what they paid & where they are located? I’m in the DC metro area. Thanks!

my vocabulary now includes “pollen filter”

I have a 99 passat wagon. It has 87,000 miles. I took it in to the dealership (Boston VW) a few weeks ago for the 90,000 miles service, which I “thought” was a “major” service that included the timing belt and the rest of the general maintenance. Anyway, I paid them $1,100 and drove off thinking my car had been serviced. The next week-end it rained and the rear passenger side foot well filled up with water. When we got home, we bailed out the car and tried to dry it out….. I was amazed how much water was in the car. Then we got on-line and realized - thanks to you all - that this was likely the result of a dirty pollen filter. I naively thought that VW would cover the disaster, since I had just had it in to be serviced, but that was foolish. VW customer “care” said that they do not check the pollen filter at 90,000 - they do it at 80,000, so they claimed that it was my fault. I tried to argue that a car should NOT fill up with water because of dirty filter and if it did the the mechanic should check it every 10,000. I tried to get her to split the bill, but that was a no…. she was cold. I must say that I would not want to have her job!!! Anyway, I had my car towed to the dealership and after waiting a week for them to find a transmission control module - they replaced the module along with the pollen filter housing. This bill was $2,448. I must say I feel like a fool…. I will never buy a VW again……………………………

A moment of levity.

I’m sure some of you have already thought of doing this to your VW.

Blam! Blam!
