$1000 expense on 2001 Passat

I took my Passat to the dealer. It was under 75k warranty. But still he has managed to work out an expense of 1000 for me which he says is not under warranty. Be careful. NEVER buy extended warranty. Each part you try to fix, they say its wear and tear. I wonder if VW ever publishes a list of products that need to be changed after every 45k miles. My vacuum cables were cracked. Thats wear and tear. My CV Boot tore, thats wear and tear. Everything thats broken its wear and tear. So basically each VW will go only 45k miles before EVERYTHING will start breaking..Hey its wear and tear !
This is definitely my LAST VW. I am planning to sell if off as soon as its out the shop.I dont understand why people keep buying this piece of CRAPP ! I’d like to add a few things that were BROKEN:
1. My gas lid wont close.
2. My rear passenger window wont work.
3. Engine light stays on.
4. Only driver door opens with remote. Others don’t…

I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IF SOMEONE COULD SUGGEST SOME GOOD CAR…Am dumping this peice of shit pretty soon.

hey chief – mine runs like a champ, champ.

try this, flash….hit the remote button 2x quickly to open all the doors.

click your gas cap 3x every time u open it. you likely have an 02 sensor problem if this does not fix it.

dont pry open your gas lid. it wont close cuz its bent. maybe someone hit it, or the latch inside has something stuck inside.

    get the window regulator fixed.

heres some advice 4 u ace, dont buy a power train warranty. and yes, kiddo, the parts are wear items. in the future buy a comprehensive warranty instead of a “”named apparel”" warranty. and finally, stop whining, soldier, cuz i can reccomend a great car, a new or certified passat with a warranty. every car has some type of problem there shooter, so dont get your pantys in a bunch.

    later boss

$1000 expense on 2001 Passat – if it isn’t attack of the newb enthusits it’s something else……

ok 45k, I think he would know by now that you have to double click the remote to open the other doors, but hey that’s just me. more than likely your batterys in your key fob are dead or going out (hence good for just the one door but not enough juice to give it a second shot). have you noticed that you have to be at a closer distance for them to work? if it works from the moon still then i would assume your key fob has gone bad. which too is a very common occurance in these things. hell i had a collection of the bad ones in my tool box (cause i had friends that liked to take their A1 and A2 keys and make them look like the new ones, fob and all). try another key, if it still doesn’t work then the door lock module has crapped out….and here again this is very common…

and the gas thing….i am going to go out on a limb here and assume it is his gas DOOR not his filler cap that is causing problems. and if it is his filler cap, here again i would think he would know by now that you need to click it a few times (hell 3 is the minimum, just give that thing a good twist and hear a bunch of clicks, won’t hurt anything)……and how in the heck do you know that it is the 02 sensor that is causing the check engine light? damn son if you can diag a car without looking at codes or without even looking at it, you ought to open up a hotline like those fortune tellers, you would make a ton of cash. from the sound of it you have a 1.8t passat correct? and if so there are minimum of about 20 items (that commonly go out) that could cause your check engine light to come on. heck i know 1.8t owners that joke “”when my check engine light goes OUT then i know i have a problem”"……..

window regulator? perhaps……try the switch on the door as well and see if it works (no not the driver’s door, the acutal door where the window isn’t working). the passat is pretty much the same car as the A4 and the window switches use to go out all the time on those. so it may be a simple fix, simple yes, pricy yes……

extended warrenties are total junk, and not worth the paper they are printed on. i personally wouldn’t waste my time on them. you basically got F’ed, just be sure to bring the vasaline next time so it doesn’t hurt so bad.

and jase, how many miles do you have on your “”pushit”" as we liked to call em’ at the dealership…….because this week it’s running like a champ doesn’t mean it will be on down the line……i know of no high mileage passats that are still running like clockwork…….hell i know of no high mileage 1.8t motors that are still going like champs or haven’t had the turbo replaced at least twice by 100k.

recommendations? go BMW, you won’t be disappointed. your passat was pretty much close enough to the price range to get you into a 3 series. and actually BMW is bringing out their new 3 series this year so you could get a good deal on their older gen. (the E46) but it would still be a new car. hell my 3 has got 240k+ on her and hasn’t even needed a headgasket yet. those are fantasic cars…….or anything Japanese in that price range will suffice as well….
