new jetta tdi gas mileage AND SAFETY RATING – yes hot because the plastic impellors on the water pumps tend to break.
how about you link us to the diesel forums, where they always seem to be talking about “”carbon foul up and you”"…..if GM didn’t already give the American public a bad taste in their mouth with their diesels back in the 80’s VW is totally helping that along. VW diesels are the most bassakwards designed things..a timing belt on a diesel? WTF..BMW did that back in the 80’s and quickly got away from it. That is a weak link in the chain. And how about the fact that they are notorous for burning out glow plugs in less than half the amount of time when compaired with other car lines and their diesel motors.
Now please don’t get me wrong, I personally love diesels, heck my benz is diesel and I love it. I wish we would get more of the diesels they have over in europe instead of these lousy hybrids……but VW diesels are just junk, piss poor design backed up by of all things the VW namesake.

new jetta tdi gas mileage AND SAFETY RATING – I heard those little pieces of plastic already rattling in my SECOND waterpump when I traded in my Passat. It was a ticking timebomb that I just couldn’t afford to replace again. It’s the only car I ever owned that needed a waterpump replacement.
VW giftwraps their cars very well to hide fragile and cheap plastic parts underneath their admittedly great paintjobs and chrome trim. Sneaky!
I wouldn’t be surprised if the Scion dealer had the car crushed and sold for scrap. They’d make more money that way rather than bother fixing the car for resale.

diesel – new system, chief. its called pumpe duse. much better, and blows mercedes away. our glow plugs ignite when you open the door, not when the key is inserted. i do agree with the hybrid comment, i dont trust them. (lexus 400h is cool, 13 seconds before engine comes on) i feel those secondary motors are gonna pop like a tin of jiffy-pop. and its gonna be a COSTLY REPAIR I BET!!!!

so really on the new ones (the MK5) the glow plugs turn on when you open the door?
DID YOU MEAN RELY? LOL. RUN ON SENTENCE, SMART-GUY. NICE TRY FANCY-PANTS!
BTW THE TOUAREG TDI USED NEITHER A CHAIN OR A BELT. IT WORKED ON A CLOCK-LIKE MOTION.
I NEEDED A WATERPUMP ON MY 99 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX GTP. AND?

well that’s stupid……. – so really on the new ones (the MK5) the glow plugs turn on when you open the door? that is about the dumbest freaking thing i have ever heard of. their glow plugs were already not lasting, can’t wait to see it now. that is a horrible idea.
and blow mercedes away? please tell me how a diesel with a TIMING BELT blows away a chain driven diesel motor. i have seen repeadly, newer benz diesels with 200k plus still going strong without a lick of worries, carbon foul up, or that lovely, and very costly, timing belt repair every 50 or 80k (depending on the year or whatever new belt design they decide to throw at it)………the 123 chassis was Benz’s first big push with their diesels and those are plentful and still going strong to this day (hell still see alot of them on the east coast)…..the MK2 gen was VW’s first big push as well, funny but you don’t really see ANY of those things still on the road. the timing belt breaks and people just throw them away. same will be true of this gen……….not until VW FINALLY sees the light and does away with their stupid timing belt on a diesel motor can they even be near the Benz diesel…….
oh and Benz was the first car manufacture to utilitize a diesel motor in their line (way back in like the 30’s i believe) and to this day still makes the finest diesels out there. no matter what silly diesel pump VW puts on theirs, or rather what silly name they give it. a diesel pump is a diesel pump. very little has changed over the years.

new jetta tdi gas mileage AND SAFETY RATING – rely? um no, go re-read it……i simply asked “”so really on the new ones….”" using “”rely”" makes no sense. run on sentence? so? if all you can do is attack me, my grammar, or my hobby that’s pretty sad.
and yes the new Tbag uses a chain, that was nice to see. it CANNOT USE NEITHER A CHAIN OR A BELT…serious, diesels are like gas motors where in they need a cam and that cam needs to spin, and to spin that cam you need a belt or a chain to do it. i never discounted the Tbag diesel motor, fact is that is an awesome motor. i just wish they would grow up with their other diesel motors and go to chain, address the carbon foul up issues, and (if it really does this) do away with that silly “”glow plugs come on when you open the door thing”"…….and “”clock type motion”" how do you think it gets that? via chain, pure and simple. diesels have pretty much all the same design in terms of how they work (ie diesel pumps) since their conception.
and pontiac? aren’t you a VW salesman? all the Vdub salesman i know drive their product and nothing else.

keyword – is needed. that was back in 2001. traded it in 01, for a 2002 malibu (liked it), but it fell apart in 2004, when i bought a used gli, which i had until january of this year and got my passat gls. i also have had a 94 corsica, (pos) 1992 chevy s-10 blazer, which was a great truck, but the 2wd drove like crap in the winter, a 1992 honda which blew up after 9 months, and the biggest piece of crap ever, a 2004 sentra specvr, which i totaled out, thank god for that. now the wife drives a 2001 daewoo LOL leganza, but i got it with 30k last month for only 2k. (books for over 5k) she will drive that until i buy her a dodge magnum in winter. there is my history, boss.
my first car was a 1988 new yorker. dumped in 1993 when i bought the truck. liked the car but tranny was for shyt.

new jetta tdi gas mileage AND SAFETY RATING – your linkie no work.
and please tell the rest of us how it spins the cams with no chain…….it is a motor and uses the same principles of basic engine design…….thus either has a chain or a belt to spin the cams. likewise a chain or belt that the diesel pump is engaged on.

so i was wrong….. – you still didn’t explain it correctly “”clock type”"………that’s funny. so i was wrong, the inital schmatics i saw of the thing used a chain, so sue me. i wasn’t around when they finally released that motor to the public. sort of like the A3 Audi’s, first reports were they were going to use a real four wheel system, but instead they opted for the Haldex set up in production…….things change. oh well, yes i was wrong.
and to answer that question, no that is not like your passat, that lousy diesel motor uses a timing belt.
and a salesman with no people skills is funny. all the ones i know are laid back and have much better things to do with their time then slam people on a VW site.
