Customization
I have been for vacation in the US (LA) and saw the SCION story. Compared to that and what VW is offering in Germany, VW is neglecting the US-Market totally.
Do you know the reason? Would it make sense to get more accessories from the VW Dealership? What is really common for customization on VW s in the US?

Not just vw – Its not just VW dealerships that don’t offer accessories for customizing. All U.S. dealers don’t realy do that. You have to go to a private business or order parts online. Like that shop in fast and furious.
Common upgrades include:
Exhaust
Intake
Turbo
Performance Injectors
Body Kits
Thats what most people get and just stop there.

Customization – it is pretty sad, there is a huge market for it and they are missing the boat…..hell BMW supports Dinan, and granted it isn’t the most you can push/mod your BMW to….the fact that you can slap in cams, super charger, exhaust, chip and have it all be covered under their warrenty is mighty nice…….

Customization – Indeed. VW allows Upsolute chiptuning in Europe, as an example similar to Dinan for BMW.

Customization – If you check out the VW corporate site you will see they do offer some limited customization(“”Drive Gear”"). They have an online catalog but you have to order some things directly from the dealer and have them install it (exhaust, wheels, suspension, body kit).
Sadly, there are no performace upgrades…mostly just accessories. They have a pretty extensive selection of wheels, a set of performance springs a “”performance muffler?”", and a ground effects kit (looks pretty tame, it looks the fairings they put on the stock R32’s or the Jetta GLI). I was actually considering getting the VW springs on my GTI until I cracked an oil pan (without ever bottoming out!).
Overall, I think that US dealerships have missed the boat on customization. I only looked briefly at the Scion accessories, but my first responce was that you could get most of that stuff aftermarket cheaper. I wonder how well a big lumbering car manufacturer could evaluate and sell performance products they have no experience with. Increasing performance without voiding your warranty would really be nice, but if I were looking to make my car faster, I’d go to VWvortex and find a shop with experience tuning my car. I barely trust VW to change my oil…I don’t think I’d want them re-mapping my ECU or adding on a supercharger.

German style / SCION – Just in case it would be possible to buy stuff at the dealership. Do you think the common VW customer would buy it?
I have also been to the Dubwars
http://www.vwvortex.com/artman/publish/article_1381.shtml. These guys like the real German look. They try to get the parts from the German ebay.
What do you think about SCION?

chiptuning – I didn’t know that VW allows chiptuning in Europe. For which car is it possible? Where do I get the chip from? How do you know?

Customization – Any car a tuner supports. Upsolute pretty much chips any European make/model, even the VW 2.0L.
Upsolute website.
How do I know? The Up rep I talked to told me.
