Thank god Thank god I’m not the only one!
I have a 99 Cabrio with 52,000 miles on it that has had more parts fall off than stay on. Its great to see that there are other people out there who hate my car as much as I do!! I should have known three months into owning my car when the wheel was defective and nearly fell off while I was driving it that the problems would be never ending. Two months after the warranty was up, the motor for the power window went bad and had to be replaced for a mere $700.00. Since then I have had two dashboard lights short out (which will cost $200 to fix each, NO WAY!), the tailpipe fall off, airconditioner blower go bad, the other window motor malfunction, the canvas top leaks in the rain, the button control for the power locks fell off, the tie rod was defective and froze up which caused the wheel bearings to go bad (another $600), the coil went bad and made me have a near accident (too bad my 99 isn’t covered under the recall!!), and most recently my antenna corroded through the rubber and fell off the car altogether. This is the tip of the iceburg. I also love how both of the VW dealers in my area quote different repair prices for the same thing and charge a fee of $56.00 to tell you what’s wrong with it, even though I usually tell them myself before I arrive. What is to be done? Has anyone had any success in getting justice for the pain and anquish (and empty wallet) caused by VW’s poor craftsmanship and service?
