No more 1.8T and 2.0L

The new MkV Golfs and Jettas sport the 5-cylinder 2.5L engine. But the New Beetle, like the Cabrio before it, would not be redesigned for the MkV, and instead remain a MkIV. However, the 2006 New Beetle will no longer have the GL/GLS trim levels (the GLX disappeared earlier), and will also carry the new 2.5L engine, along with a PD100 diesel variant.

The 1.8T and the 2.0L are effectively laid to rest.

Now the question is, how are the 2.5L and the upcoming 2.0T going to hold up to public opinion? The 1.8T was a whiz-bang engine that sadly suffered a PR disaster in a bad batch of coilpacks, MAFs, and other related devices, though it and the S2000’s 2.0L were the last 4-cylinder engines to disappear from the Ward’s Top 10.

Can these new engines not only prove their performance, but also satisfy customer expectations fo reliability?

We shall see.

But however you slice it, I’m sure many of you are tossing hats in the air and whooping cries of joy, for the two engines that have caused the most headaches are now laid to rest.

:)

P.S. – I still like my 1.8T. :D

2001 Jetta Engine surge when brakes are applied

Has anyone had this problem ? when you are going along and go to stop when you hit the brakes the car will stop if you are lucky but if you are not the engine surges and the car leaps forward. my wife was wainting at a stop sign all of a sudden the engine revs up and the car leaps what happened a nice dented hood from hitting the guy in front of her. Any help, she loves the car I have a 98 which I cannot complain about at all . But the 2001 one word for her PIECE of you know what.
