Headlamp covers
Got this in the email, leaving it here for folks to see and advise:
Had mucho electrical problems in the beginning. Now, both my headlamps
are totally opaque and look like crap. Went to dealer, they said
nothing could be done. How difficult is it to replace these headlamps???? I
found a place on the internet that sells them, and want to have hubby
install. He is not a patient man, and is prone to flipping out when
things don’t work correctly.
Any suggestions?

Headlamp covers – yeah i am serious, i know on the Audi A4’s you had to….the assemblies are set up completely different than that of the new beetles, wherein the headlight assmebly you are taking out is only one part of the complete assembly. the part you are sliding the bucket into is what actually adjusts the headlight position. whereas in GTI’s, Jettas and the like the assembiles are one complete piece and have to be removed as such.

The New Beetle can be frustrating, but the other models not so much.

Headlamp covers – the last part of that statement pretty much sums it up…..don’t let him do it no matter what car it is, if you don’t have the patience for it, you shouldn’t touch it……..not to mention you have to align the headlights when you are done. much better if a shop with the required tool does it (the alignment box before you start flaming me that a “”wall is just fine”").
jettas and GTI’s are fun and i do believe require the removal of the front bumper in order for the headlights to come off.

Headlamp covers – Are you serious? And here I thought the NBs were difficult because the plastic tracks always derailed. For the NB, you pop the hood and lift a tab switch, the lamp will come out of the housing by about half an inch, and from thereon out you pull. Extremely easy, but then putting it back is the difficult part because of the aforementioned misaligned tracks.
If I had to name one truly frustrating thing about the NB design (which, let’s admit it, is form over function), it’d be the lamp tracks. The battery location is a close second (it’s where it is in Jettas and Golfs, but think about the NB hood being circular and you’ll see what I mean).
