6 – To be honest, Mazda is a good company. But, the only cars I like are the Mazda 6, the RX-7 RX-8, and Miata Speed MX I believe its called.

RX-MX – Very cool. I just registered for DC event on 11/12 at 9AM.

I think Mazda makes a great product. They seem to be paying attention to what younger car buyers are looking for. My local VW dealer also sells Mazda and I like the 3.

I read that the new MX-5 is supposed to be more roomy for taller drivers…I really hope so, because I tried sitting in one a few weeks ago and had some issues with legroom.

Want to check out a car other than VW (since you probably think yours is a POS)? – i remember when mazada first started on this “zoom zoom” kick and redesigned their cars. the reviews said that you would think they are German cars by the way they drive if you didn’t know what brand it was. Mazada makes a great product and i am most happy to see them NOT jumping on the hybrid bandwagon. i think Nissan and Mazada are two of the best unknown and unappreciated car manufactures out there. i have seen their products and history and think it far better than that of Honda. (which in my opinion is way overrated in this country)

Want to check out a car other than VW (since you probably think yours is a POS)? – Honda is very overrated — except for the S2000. That 4-banger is ridiculously good, though you never really get to enjoy it since VTEC only kicks in past 6000 RPMs (ironically, if ever a car was made for the Autobahn…).

Nissan is all right, but I don’t like their cars. I like their chassis and engine, though, so the Infinitis have me drooling.

The Maxda RX-8 is one vehicle I am dying to sit in and drive. I know it looks funky, but I dig it — I like quirky looking cars (I’m driving a goddamn Beetle after all).

I’d be interested in taking the Mazda 3 out for a spin, as well. The MX-5… nice, but for traditional sports cars (designed as a convertible, RWD, manual, fun), I like the look of the S2000. But a free test drive on an open course? Sure!

Honda – Yea, the S2000 is an incredible car. Its got the looks too. I’m not a big fan of Camaros, but I was in a friend of mines 2000 SS last night. 350bhp. OMFG fastest I EVER went. It was ridiculous, 125MPH in what seemed like 10 seconds. I always called Camaros girls cars until last night. But still, I don’t like their looks.

Want to check out a car other than VW (since you probably think yours is a POS)? – I went to the Mazda ZoomZoomLive event in DC last Sat. AM and it was a ton of fun. The staff was very cool, the weather beautiful, the stuff they had set up was also fun, and they had free lunch. They also gave out a $500 off the negotiated price of any mazda coupon. If anyone wants mine, just ask and I’ll mail it. I won’t be buying another car for a while. Oh yea, they also had both Standard and Automatic transmissions in the RX-8 and the MX-5.

The RX-8 event started with a ten mintue lecture on weight transfer and how to attack corners with a RWD car. (pretty basic stuff). Then you got to do a lap with a driving instructor (who just sat there…didn’t even say a word as I was driving).

Before getting in the car, the instructor did say something like “”They’re not your tires, it’s not your car…have fun.”" The track for the RX-8 didn’t really warrant getting out of second gear, but it was refreshing to drive a car at the limits. It was also fun to drive a car where you could make the rear end step out a bit. The car handled pretty neutral, no understeer, and some very slight oversteer to help get around the corners.

The other event that was pretty fun, was the timed race in the new MX-5 miata. The thing drove like a go-cart. I saw probably half a dozen people lose control of the MX-5 on the first corner. (The starting line was 1/2 way through a tight S-turn & people tried to come out of it at full-throttle in 1st gear…SPIN!!!). I think the target time was 37.5 and most people were probably in the low 40’s ( ran mine at 38.9). I only did this one once, because by the time I was finished, the line was well over an hour long. It was also pretty cool because they had the mazda Formula1 driver drive the course a few times and he blew everyone else away. He ran a few laps in the 31-32 second range.

I left around noon, and the lines were over an hour long by that point. I actually thought about getting up real early and going back on Sunday just to take a few more laps in the MX5 & RX8 before it got crowded…but decided to sleep in.

i also heard there was a civic SI even there two weeks earlier that was less crowded and also a lot of fun. Mazda has a pretty strong club racing following, so that would explain the high turnout. There were also a lot of Scca cars in the parking lot…lots of eye candy.
