99 Vw Passat Oil Pump

Hello,

Does anyone have any information on a “”silent recall”" or “”goodwill recall”" for a 99 VW Passat? Two months ago I replaced an Oil sensor that was faulty (or so i was told). The oil light came back on 2 weeks ago and now I’m being told its probably my oil pump. I know they’ve had some problems with this. My car only has 75,000 miles on it and that doesn’t seem right for an oil pump to be going out this soon. For the most part I’ve met all the scheduled oil changes and maintenance checks.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks!

99 Vw Passat Oil Pump – What model Passat? If it’s the 1.8T and the oil pump failed because of sludge then, yes, it is under an extended warranty. Otherwise, I don’t think so.

99 Vw Passat Oil Pump – It’s the 1.8 Turbo. I was told by the dealer its only covered if you have proof that every scheduled oil change was met. If you’re over even one by even 1000 miles than you can’t qualify for the recall. I’m guessing there’s no way around this. It sucks, an oil pump should not need to be replaced after only 75K miles.

    Thanks.

99 Vw Passat Oil Pump – So you have all your maintenance records but one or some of them show an excess of over 1000? How much of an excess?

99 Vw Passat Oil Pump – I have all maintenance records for the last two years. For the most part they are straight. There are a couple that look pretty bad though, around the 7K mark. I was told this wouldn’t work for my case.

99 Vw Passat Oil Pump – Hmm… that’s dealer choice, that is. Is there another dealer in your area? One that may be more… customer service oriented?

99 Vw Passat Oil Pump – I may do some checking. There isat least one other in the area, although I’ve been happy with this particular dealer in the past. It’s definitely worth looking into.

    Thanks

Check This Link From This Site – I had the same problem and did not have all of my receipts. My dealer in Connecticut required that I show receipts for 4 oil changes for my Passat with over 32,000 miles. They did not need to be in sequence. I provided the copies and they did the repair.

See this link below for the detail of my posts on this topic.

BS, it’s a design defect. – It’s not the oil changes, it’s a DEFECT with these engines.

Join the group – there is a potential problem with all vw with a turbo.
It seems that if you go without an oil change for more than 5,000 miles
sludge will build up and eventually clog the oil pump. So they say.
Sludge is caused by the turbo.
Even if you clean the oil pump, there is still a potential problem.
I’m at 78,000 miles and they wanted to see all the oil change receipts.
right. Who keeps alll of them?

I going to change oil at 4,000 miles
use sinthetic oil, do another oil wash every 10 k.
and the last option will be to sell the car.

I meet someone who had this happen to them at 20K and then at 40k.

    good luck.
    Steven

99 Vw Passat Oil Pump – Again, this is for the longitidunal 1.8T, meaning, for VWs, it’s just the Passat.
There are probably some Jettas, Golfs, and New Beetles with this problem, but they are very nearly all of them due to owner negligence.
