99 Passat timing belt failures

I am thinking this has been posted a million times before…

Is there any recourse on premature failures of timing bets on the 1.8T for second owners?? What a bloody rediculous situation. I have had had several VW’s but will never buy another if I have to fully digest the 5K I just spent putting my engine back together. Talk about a bogus situation.

At the very least, VW should supply parts at cost.

Temperature Light Time of Year

Hi all,

I’m in the Northeast and now that it’s winter my temperature light goes off every morning. ( Red light with nice beep) As many of us know simply restarting the car solves the problem and life is good. Black tape on the dashboard and earplugs would also solve this.

I got my Certified Pre-Owned 10 months ago, shortly after purchasing I took it in for service with the same problem. (2002 Jetta GLS 1.8T, Auto, curently 50,000M)

According to service they just needed to “”Reconnect Wire to Auxiliary Water Pmp”". Well that is very nice and I have full Confidence that this missed connection must have been inspection number 113 and therefore was overlooked in the 112 Point Inspection by a Volkswagen Technician, VW CPO.
I read somewhere that this cold weather light was really a sensor problem. (Or perhaps it is a new feature to tell me that it is cold outside?) Anybody else experiencing this phenomenom or know of the vailidity of the so callled “”silent recall”"

PTSD

PTSD

After having survived two years of VW ownership, we are slowly recovering.

With another winter season upon us, it got me to thinking about the troubles we had as It was at this time of year that our Jetta really showed its faults.

This is our first year without or cursed Jetta Wagon. This morning I went out and was able to open the doors of our Freestyle without concern that they would be frozen shut as they had done on an almost daily basis with the Jetta (They do that don’t ya know!).

Better still, I was able to drive up the driveway with some three inches of snow in the driveway without any trouble at all on regular all season tires, something that the Jetta was incapable of doing even with snow tires (inferior ones as related to us by VWoA despite the fact that the dealership sold the same tires!) and traction control.

Can’t say that I miss the Jetta except maybe for the heated seats, but then again, Fords seem to warm up quickly and its not much of a trade all things considered.

Happy Holidays to those of you who continue to fight the good fight against VW.

“Volkswagen Corruption”

If you do a web search for “Volkswagen Corruption” you are presented with an incredible array of references. It helps me to understand how a company that had the potential of VW could have fallen as low as it is now. Interesting reading.

More GTI problems. Sigh.

It’s always something. Now the lowest tier of lights in the center console (temp, fan, air direction) flicker and there’s no heat to the floor. Could this be the consequence of taking the 02′ GTI to the dealer for the flasher recall? It’s 6 weeks out of warranty, so VW’s probably going to tell me to piss off anyway.

Moonraker

VW sends 22 German marketing people to Malibu to take the pulse of America.
WTF?

I can see it now: Herr Moe, Herr Larry, and Herr Curly go back to Wolfsburg and start calling everyone “”Dude”".

Here is the secret:

Build a quality product and stand behind your product.

That’s it! That’s the universal secret!

That’s enough. Read the policies of the website NOW.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion. The rules of this website limit your ability to express that opinion in only one way: derisive speech for the sake of being offensive is not welcomed here.

I have no problems with opposing viewpoints. Critique a viewpoint, engage in a debate, even a nonsensical or silly one is fine. But you do not have complete freedom to talk trash about another member of this forum. This applies to everyone. I could not care less who you are and what your views on VW are, you will conduct yourselves as dictated by the very simple policies of this forum, period.
