engine replaced
I am pleased to announce VW has replaced my engine due to the acknowledgement of there sludge problem, upon picking up my car the service area now has mandatory synthetic oil requirements for the 1.8l turbo engine. I guess they ahve seen enough of them to warrant the replacement of the engines, i was even missing 2 of my oil change reciepts as well, and they still replaced it. I will never buy another VW but i have to say i am pleased with the fact that they are now accepting responsibility for there problem and not putting it back on me. I wish you all the same luck i had.

engine replaced – Congrats. They are in a real mess over this one.It is a shame that Vw let it get this far. After 26 years of working on vw’s I have never seen any engine of theirs do this. They should have notified their customers about requiring synthetic oil in these engines.

engine replaced – just wanted to let you know that 1.8T and TDI have called for full synthetic at the dealer since 2000. It is up to the dealer to make sure the correct fluid is used. VW DID require this. I am glad to hear that they helped you out even though the wrong fluid was used and changes were not up to date.

engine replaced – When I had my 2000 TDI dealership x did tell me that I had to use synthetic.
Bought my certified 2002 1.8T at another vw dealer. I have taken only to a vv dealer for oil. Each time they have asked me whether I want synth or regular. I have always asked what does it matter and they would say one is $65 the other is $29, based on that I took the regular. I am due for another in a month or so, I will ask and see if their answer changes,

engine replaced – If you change the oil every 5k it doesn’t matter if you use synthetic or standard. It boils down to being a personal preference of how much you want to pamper the engine.
