Melting Aux. Fuse box (initially AC Problem)

I’m guessing this one may cost me. (2002 GTI GLX VR6 w/autoclimate control)

Not that I NEEDED it yesterday, but my AC wouldnt work on my way home yesterday (just warm air). Who knows how long it has been broken, but I’m now over 60,000 miles.

Anyone else have any horror stories (or positive stories) about VW AC?

Most of the cars I’ve owned didn’t have functioning AC. On all of the ’80s toyotas I used to own they all would have cost about the value of the car to replace. It’s way too hot in DC to go without DC with a black leather interior.

I made an appointment to get it checked out, but any chance it is a simple re-charge? I’ll check a few independents to see what they charge so I can better gauge the price the dealer may quote.

Short shelf life: New VW Golf to be replaced by 2008

2008 Golf Wait a minute… or year… US VW dealers still have 2005’s. The 2006 is the same as 2005 or 2000 for that matter. The new GTI has just arrived in the US but the regular Golfs are still on the way even though Europe has been driving the new design for years. I guess all buyers should hold off for another 18 months and skip the the 2007 Golfs.

Airbag light

2002 jetta GLS 1.8T Auto 53K.
My aibag light just went on, brought to dearler nect day. girl behind me same car, same problem.
I didn’t care it’s under warranty, and that FAST on the showroom floor looks damn nice.
Well I guess I would have cared if the dealer was more than a walk away. They kept my car overnight, I didn’t care but I can see how many would.
Some argue that VW are more performance oriented as opposed to a “”utilitarian”" Honda/Toyo. Whatever, my point is that a temp sensor or an airbag sensor are sensors and should have little to do with performance. Past experience with Honda / Subaru never had these problems; these probs are more similar to MG & Alpha. Still I don’t care I guess I like my VW and like I said I can walk to the dealer, my attitude may change when the warranty is up.

Accelerator not working on a Jetta Diesel

I just came back from the service dept of a local VW store. Well about two weeks ago my husband was driving along and then all of a sudden the accelerator would not work, he depressed the petal but no gas…nothing but the brake worked and lights were still on. He had to pull over turn off the car. Then after starting it up again it worked for a few minutes and then..it did it again. Well he called me up and I met him at the service station. Since it was in we had the timing belt replaced (78000 miles on the car,a 2003 Model). Three days later we picked up the car and they said our floor mats were to big and they went to far under the petal and hit the wires causing it to do what it did. OK, so we placed a new shorter mat in and a week later it happened to me again. I pulled over, threw the mat in the back and was able to get going again, for about 15min, it did it again. Took it straight to the repair department again (same one) and they took about a 45 min look at it and came out and said I probably need to replace the part under the petal (did not get specific info) but that all the parts look fine. Well I go back in to the car and on the way home (15 miles away) the accelerator failed 7 times!!. So here I am 15 min since getting home and I am just wondering if someone out there has had this issue and may be able to give me a better insight to what might be wrong. Sorry this is so long but I want to get my detailed facts out straight. As for previous problems we have had both front windows drop in to the door (recall), radio volume problems, car not being able to get out of park (that was fun…not) and engine warning light not being cleared from a repair pickup (not to forget to mention my tire was low and they did not bother to check it and I had to call them over before I left their driveway to fill up the tire….always check your tires on pick up!!!).

VW Buyback

I just received another “VW Buyback” letter in the mail. If you read it , it says that you can trade in your VW for a new VW on a specific date. The pieces of shit at VWoA have foisted another scam on VW owners. I would suggest that any VW owners that have been screwed by VW go to this event and voice their opinion of VW. I plan on being at Colonial Volkswagen on Route 9 In Westboro, Massachusetts, with a large group on Saturday, March 25 to let every know what human garbage VW truly are. Anyone wishing to join us are truly welcome.

Beetle Radio Issue

I have been a lifelong VW fan with very little trouble…but, it seems that I have purchased my last VW product. My daughter owns a 2000 Beetle and replaced a defunct factory radio with a Pioneer CD/AM/FM unit installed by the radio dealer. A few months later she took the Beetle in for state inspection at a close friend’s garage. The inspection computer was unable to connect to the Beetle’s diagnostics and failed the inspection.

The friend informed me that Volkswagen places certain diagnostic computer functions in their branded radio systems to force owner’s to buy only dealer installed sound systems. I thought this was the silliest thing I had ever heard so I contacted VW customer service…and “”Patricia”" confirmed the reliance on dealer installed products…then backtracked and suggested that I have the dealer verify the installation.

I know that car manufacturers are becoming more proprietary in their efforts to sell product…but to hold the owners hostage over an item of such personal taste and preference as a sound system is going too far…especially considering VW’s youthful target market. I am incensed and I intend to spread the word. Goodbye Volkswagen!

Are VW Jetta diesels as troublesome?

I am looking to get a diesel so that I can use biodiesel and was looking at Jetta diesels.

Are VW diesels less problematic than the gas burners? Any years or models better? worse?

Snark, insight, comments appreciated.

‘01 Jetta 1.8T promlems - check engine light flashing, etc.

As many of you seem to have had problems with, too, my effing check engine light has been going on and going off for about a year and a half now. At first, I took it to the dealer every time. First, it was the ignition coils, which they replaced. Then they cleaned the throttle body. Then they changed the spark plugs . . . .

A few hundred dollars & a lot of screaming later, it kept coming on, so I have just ignored it for about a year. The light has been on for the last two weeks, not unusual. Then, it started flashing, the car was shaking and rattling, and I am unable to drive it. Anyone else have a similar problem? I know that the catalytic converter is covered because I’m under 80K, so I’m hoping that’s the problem - but the guy at VW told me that it was a very slim chance of it being the cat. I’m having it towed to the dealer after work, so if anyone has any suggestions in the next few hours, they would be greatly appreciated!
