Either VW is getting smart, or the folks at are on crack.

LeftLane News

The Jetta MKIV platform may be used for the upcoming Dodge Hornet? Well, if it is just the frame & suspension, maybe. If they decide to take any electrical components…they obviously haven’t been paying any attention. If that is the case, props to VW for sabotaging the competition.

Out of Control?

With everything that is going on at Volkswagen these days, I’d say VW is in some shit. While I was driving today I had the radio on, and heard what I think should be Mr. Hallmark’s new theme song. The Fray, “”Everyone know’s I’m in over my head, over my head.”" Just a thought.

Less bitchin’, more questions.

I’ve noticed that vwsucks.com has far fewer posts than a couple of years ago, and that many new posts (”"My 6 year old Jetta needs $200 in repairs!”") are little more than petty aggravations of owners of used cars with unreasonably high expectations and probably more than 1 divorce under their belts (”"She/he wasn’t meeting my needs!”")

I HATED my ‘02 GTI for a couple of years, but now it seems that most of the bugs are worked out and it’s pure joy to drive. After renting a spankin’ new 2006 Altima last weekend (among the most tedious, boring appliances in production), I really appreciated the asthetics, feel and performance of my 5 year-old VW.

It’s kind of like my marriage. Love at first sight and amazing “”handling.”" After making the commitment a couple of years were kind of tough, but you hang in there, things get better and you eventually remember why you fell in love to begin with.

I still visit this site, but mostly to stay informed, since it’s pretty clear vwsucks.com has (mostly) evolved into a place to get free advice from Paul.

Have you seenthese commercials?

“”I make more money than you!”" “”I’m compensating for my short-comings!”" These are the things shouted through megaphones by people driving better cars than the Passat in one of their recent commercials. The implication is, if you choose a better, flashy car it’s because your penis is too small. My belief is, every car is better than any VW and to not buy other than VW implies micropenilism.

That is all.

Glad I found this site, my 2001 Jetta 1.8T is killing me! Multiple probs and read on for more…..help?

I have a 2001 Jetta 1.8T Wolfsburg manual and Im about to blow this car up. I had many many problems over the years. I bought it used in June of ‘03. Aside from the many recall problems, I have replaced a Cat, brakes went bad without warning, leaking sun roof, seat problmes, center console, etc, etc, etc……..

Well now this gets better. I took the car to VW for its 80,000 mile service.Plus the turbo bypass was cracked and had to be replaced. I get it back, and the car is severly misfiring. I take it right back, they checked it and told me they installed the wrong spark plugs (used 2.0 plugs), so they put the new plugs and and away I drive. Car is still severly misfiring. Service tech then drives the car aroun for awhile with his computer hooked up. I hop in, and the misfire seems to have disappeared. Said the computer just needed to reset itself. I drive it to my wifes work, car is running fine. She then drives it home later and the CEL comes on, but car seems okay. I call VW and they are going to look at it on Mon, because I also had to schedule a clutch/transmission tear down because every time her or I shift the car, the transmission seems to ‘clank’.
Well the car also needed a new battery, whcih I knew and even the service tech told me. Well since the car isnt under warranty anymore, I figured I’d change the battery myself. Went to Sears, got a new battery, installed it after some cursing and took it out for a drive. The car is misfiring again, like when I picked it up from the dealer. I disconnected the battery and reconnected it hoping the computer would reset. Nothing. It has complete lag from 2500 to 4000 RPM’s. Its’the same condition as when I picked it up from the dealer.
What gives? Did something reset wrong with the new battery? The CEL is off though. Does the car need to be driven around more for the computer to reset? Any help is appreciated.
On a side note, I will never ever buy another VW again! I have had nothing but problems with this car since I bought it. its my wifes car, she only commutes 12 miles a day to work, and it gets driven around the SF bay area.
Conversly, I have a 97 Mitsubishi Eclipse that I have had NO problems with.
Sadly, when we bought the VW, my wife sold her 98 Honda Accord. Nothing was wrong with it, but it looked like a granny car, in her words. Now we are looking at buying another Honda and selliung the VW.
Any help is appreciated!

Strut mount bearings are “”shot”"

Another scheduled maintenance (65K oil change) and they ask for another couple hundred bucks.

Just got a call that my “”front strut mount/bearings”" are shot. $387.
‘02 GTI GLX VR6

The car has 65K miles on it, so I guess that doesn’t suprise me that it may need stuff like shocks/brakes, but sh!t…that seems like some serious change for not even replacing the strutts.

I’m going to hold off on spending that kind of loot right now.

I may call a few indies to see what kind of prices they will consider. Outside of that, WTF. I’ve about had it with spending cash to keep this car going.

Anyone care to share what I SHOULD be paying for those parts? & reasonable labor? Maybe I’m being ignorant, but I think my dealer’s flat-rate is retarded.

immobilizer problem…vabeachautohaus, pls

The immobilizer is activated (I don’t know why…probably because I changed a new battery…)The radio needs reset and it says ‘code’ on its screen (There is a security code for it???)I’ve got only one key. The remote key box hasn’t been used for some time and it was bad.

How to deactivate the immobilizer? Is it possible to repair or replace the remote key box? How much would it be, normally? Is there a code for the key that I can use it to deactivate the immobilizer???
