Strut mount bearings are “”shot”"

Another scheduled maintenance (65K oil change) and they ask for another couple hundred bucks.

Just got a call that my “”front strut mount/bearings”" are shot. $387.
‘02 GTI GLX VR6

The car has 65K miles on it, so I guess that doesn’t suprise me that it may need stuff like shocks/brakes, but sh!t…that seems like some serious change for not even replacing the strutts.

I’m going to hold off on spending that kind of loot right now.

I may call a few indies to see what kind of prices they will consider. Outside of that, WTF. I’ve about had it with spending cash to keep this car going.

Anyone care to share what I SHOULD be paying for those parts? & reasonable labor? Maybe I’m being ignorant, but I think my dealer’s flat-rate is retarded.

The problem is…… – Your car should/could go to 100-120k before even considering those kind of repairs.

One of my Toyota’s has 160k. No squeaks…..no repairs.

    Terrible.

    Just read my profile.

Strut mount bearings are “shot” – My B4’s upper strut bearings wore out at around 80K miles. They started to emit a soft clunking sound when I drive over small bumps. Fortunately, I was able to drive the car with the worn bearings for quite a while. I had to because other big problems with the car kept me from getting at them till I had them fixed. The car nickled and dimed me to death during the last few years I owned it.
