Less bitchin’, more questions.

I’ve noticed that vwsucks.com has far fewer posts than a couple of years ago, and that many new posts (“”My 6 year old Jetta needs $200 in repairs!”") are little more than petty aggravations of owners of used cars with unreasonably high expectations and probably more than 1 divorce under their belts (“”She/he wasn’t meeting my needs!”")

I HATED my ‘02 GTI for a couple of years, but now it seems that most of the bugs are worked out and it’s pure joy to drive. After renting a spankin’ new 2006 Altima last weekend (among the most tedious, boring appliances in production), I really appreciated the asthetics, feel and performance of my 5 year-old VW.

It’s kind of like my marriage. Love at first sight and amazing “”handling.”" After making the commitment a couple of years were kind of tough, but you hang in there, things get better and you eventually remember why you fell in love to begin with.

I still visit this site, but mostly to stay informed, since it’s pretty clear vwsucks.com has (mostly) evolved into a place to get free advice from Paul.

Less bitchin’, more questions. – No, it’s because lots of people have already bailed out of their troublesome VWs including me. PLUS the genuine improvements that we can so far see with the new MkVs and Passats could explain the drop in the volume of posts in this site. That’s good for everyone! Including VWAG

Less bitchin’, more questions. – So…the folks who bought the cars you and “lots” of others bailed on don’t have internet access? They can’t visit the site? It just seems that the volume of problems people are having has decreased dramatically.

Less bitchin’, more questions. – I’m sure mine went straight to the junk yard from the Toyota dealership for parting out. The dash was lit like a christmas tree when I handed it over All sorts problems that the dealerships pretty much gave up trying to fix unless I pay them thousands to find out what’s really wrong and do a lasting fix.
I’ve even hear that some dealerships actually turn down VWs for trade-ins because they can’t re-sell them.

Four Year Decline in Sales – The word got out about VW’s POS cars and sales declined four years in a row. The only people that were buying VW’s were the die hard bend-over buyers and people that didn’t know any better.
VW has come out with a new lineup. They are advertising them heavily and are selling them and leasing them at a loss. They are trying to buy back a share of the market.
Once all these new buyers start having problems the cycle will start over again.

Less bitchin’, more questions. – I purchased my Jetta (2002) based off of family experience with VW. It was my dream car and I couldn’t wait to buy it. After reading a lot of posts, I found that I am luckier than most. My issues have been more aesthetics and less major function. My frustration came out of the fact that I spent all this money and I felt that my car was held together with toothpicks and spit (breaking window clips, center consoles, vent covers, faulty sunroof drains, broken seat frames, peeling door handles, etc.). The other frustration is the service. I feel like I am a very logical person, and dealing with my service department made me feel like banging my head against a wall until I passed out. Very common, easy tasks took 3 or 4 trips and countless loaner cars (b/c they don’t drive 3 miles away over a bridge) to complete. The most major issues I have dealt with to date have been replacing the catalytic converter, having oil mysteriously disappear from my car without a leak, and a stripped oil pan. I really feel like I will not buy another VW strictly for the service headaches I have dealt with – I also realize that service can be bad anywhere, but I have yet to see it with any of my other vehicles.

I know a lot of people that love their VWs and will buy again, but it is not for everyone….
