2006 Sales

Sales for the first six months of 2006 are up 20% over last years abysmal figures. VWOA has accomplished this by introducing a number of new models, a massive ad campaign, and selling and leasing cars at a loss. After four years of declining sales the projections for this year will still be substantially down from their peak year of 2001. 2006 will be another year of financial loss for VWOA. How long will VWAG continue to subsidize VWOA? The wolves are yelping at VWAG’s door.

2006 Sales – You fail to mention that VAG (it has never been VWAG) believes that though VWOA will still post a loss for the group this year, they now think that the decline over the past several years has stabilized:

However, the report also noted that the company now believes its position in the U.S. car market has stabilized after a long string of monthly sales declines stretching back more than two years

That’s not “”wolves yelping at VAG’s door”".

2006 Sales – I wonder if VW includes into these sales reports all the many buybacks I’ve been hearing from a lot of new (soon to be former) owners lately in the VW sites.
(Damn! why a company has to have a formal buyback program set up really is telling on how they are doing in the product quality control side of their business)
I heard rumors of VW plant parking lots in Puebla full of hoplessly unfixable by the dealer buyback units for recycling into the market.
Maybe it’s just a nasty rumor sent out by the evil master of reliable cars Toyota……………Nahhh they don’t even have to bother doing something like that. VW’s a mere flea in the market compared to their continuing worldwide success with their products.

    2006 Sales – Interesting.

A 2005 report that states 3rd quarter profits were lower than expected.
VW is undergoing a major remake. A necessary part of the makeover is that management needs to get concessions from the unions and eliminate 10,000 jobs. Without these comcessions VW will be unable to compete in the world market. The unions are being asked to bend over and take “”the VW experience”". The unions are not going to be favorable to subsidizing VWoA while they are giving back.

September Sales – September sales were down 7.2% from September 2005 figures. This does not bode well at all for VWoA. VW has introduced a number of new models which they have heavily advertised and sold at loss. After an initial minor rise in sales, sales are tanking. This will be another year of Billion Dollar + losses for VWoA. VAG has just received major concessions from their unions. Will they continue to subsidize VWoA?

    - Always provide a news source for your reporting, please.
    VW Sales Report September 2006

Now look at the right column for model changes. The loss of wagons brings the number down. The NB Convertible is down and will likely keep going down with the new Eos being the new VW convertible. Touareg, Phaeton, I’m happy to see those go down — it does indicate gas economy is in buyers’ minds right now. Jetta and Passat sedan sales and the Golf/GTI are up; pretty up actually. Even the New Beetle Coupe is up (I guess some folks like the sharpened lines).

VW’s gearing up for an attempt at profit for 2008, stating they plan to see very little change in sales for the next year. Obviously, VW is committed to the American market, so yes, they will continue to subsidize VWoA… at least through 2008.

    - Thoughts in no particular order.

Remember Nissan was close to hearing the funeral dirge just a few years ago and their comeback has been unprecedented. ( and they were the kings of the subsidized lease, which got product on the road, which forced people back to take a look 2 or three years later, at which time there were better Nissans)

I bought a VW because no matter how reliable Toyota is they scream boring louder than VW’s rattles, shakes, stops, oil…. etc. Plus the interior for the price cannot be beat. On the other hand if Toyo made the nw FJ with diesel I’d be at the dealer tommorrow.

More people would probably by the new Rabbit if it got gas mileage like an old Rabbit. Plus announcing to the world that new, new rabbit will be out in 2 years is no way to convince me to trade in my old VW for the stop gap rabbit.

VW’s advertising is better than it has been in years and if anything guitar production will be up… and hopefully so will highway beautification courtesy of unpimpingze auto.

October 2006 Sales – VWoA reports (WWW.media.vw.com) that sales for October of 2006 were down 7.4% compared to sales for October 2005. Not a good sign.

Union Concessions – Recent concessions by VW unions ( 28.8 hour work week to 33 hours) will help subsidize the losses at VWoA and maintain VAG’s dysmal profit levels. However, if VAG intends to compete in the world market and expects to subsidize VWoA’s downward spiral, Bernhard is going to have break the union’s spine. VAG simply cannot continue to compete on a world market and continue to subsidize VWoA while working 33 hours a week and paying exorbitant wages.
All this does not bode well for VW’s already horrific reputation for quality. I said it before, and it is even moreso now: now is an incredibly stupid time to be buying a VW.

November Sales – VWoA has reported their November sales figures (www.media.vw.com). Sales for November of 2006 are down 5.3% from November of 2005 figures. Year to date sales are up 8.6%. At this rate Sales for 2006 will only be slightly higher ( low single figures ) than last years dismal figures. This is a big disapointment for VW. VWoA introduced new models, mounted a massive ad campaign, and sold their products at a loss. Sales are nowhere near what they were projecting. People are simply not buying VW’s pieces of junk.

Sales – VWoA would be better off if they sold the guitars and gave away a free volkswagen with it. There are probably more people that want the guitar than a POS VW.

December Sales – VWoA ( http://www.media.vw.com/ ) reported their december sales figures and year overall figures. Sales for December of 2006 were down 23.2% from December of 2005. Total sales for 2006 were up 4.9% from 2005.
Sales figures for May of 2006 showed that sales for the year were up 23.6%. Since that time sales increases for the year have decreased to the level of 4.9% for the year. After the massive ad campaign for the introduction of the new models, sales fell on their face. People are simply not buying Volkswagen’s overpriced pieces of shit.

VWoA Not Expecting To Be Profitable Until At Least 2009 – VWoA in November revised their expectations as reported in a Wall Street Journal article:
    http://pqasb.pqarchiver.com/wsj/access/1170676261.html?dids=1170676261:117067626

    t+Journal&edition=Eastern+edition&startpage=B.7&type=8_90&desc=VW+May+Not+See+
    Profit+Until+2009+In+North+America
VWoA does not expect to be profitable until at least 2009.
VWoA was planning on reducing their Billion Dollar losses to Eight Hundred Million Dollars for 2006. I have not seen the final figures for 2006 and do not know if they in fact reduced their losses. But even if they reduced their losses to eight hundred million, that still amounts to a loss of over three thousand dollars for each car sold in America.
