It is the transmission!!! – I have a 2000 beetle with about 70,000. I took it to a shop that works on all types but specializes on European cars. Everything you guys described is a transmission issue. Long story short I am getting a new transmission, parts and labor 2300…

Find a good shop that is not a VW dealer, I had one for years when I was in Cali even when I still had a warranty. He found all sorts of problems and would tell me what they were and to tell the dealer to fix it because it was under warranty. They always had this arrogance and thought how would I know the issue, I am just a “”consumer”" but little did they know I had a cool mechanic.

Take it to another shop and tell them VW aint listening and have them find the problem and do a write up, you may have to pay a little but tell them once the warranty is up you will come to them. Take you info back and demand it be fixed.

I still like my VW for the record, its paid for and looks almost brandnew, but regardless of how good I take care of it, a crappy transmission is going to fail.

perhaps not the transmission? – Anyone had this issue:
For months ( years) I have been complaining about the transmission to service desk and they tell me all is OK. I had an epiphany yesterday. It’s the brake peda or more likely some switch having to do with brake pedal.
Like this, when car has been driven and warm, come to stop sign and stop by pressing brake, tap gas to go and nothing, press gas harder and transimission kicks in… hard.
OR
Come to stop sign and stop by pressing brake, tap gas to go and nothing, TAP BRAKE, then press gas and go as normal car.

Sucks all Around – First off you have the parent company back in Wolfsburg. The prostitution and corruption scandal stunk all the way to the US. Their arrogance is beyond the pall. Then you have VWoA. They’re pushing the crap cars onto the American public and denying that there is any problem with them. When a VW customer seeks redress for VW problems VWoA insults them. Then you have the dealers who are caught between the customer and VWoA. They have seen massive quality control problems and sales nosedive. They are desperate to survive. When you walk through the door of a dealer they pounce on you, turn you upside down and shake every last penny out of you, and toss you out the door.
The VW “”experience”" is just misery all around.
The cure is to simply not buy a Volkswagen in the first place. That is why it is important to let as many people as possible know the truth about Volkswagen.

My 02 Jetta (same miles as you) has been in numerous times with same “”there is no problem response”". Took to different VW dealer and there was some acknowledgement of a problem and they replaced the Transmission Control Unit. But that seems to do have done very little as problem still exists. For me once the car is warmed up there is a considerable amount of lag time from a stop or near stop to movement and then there is a very unsettling clunk into gear. I look at my passenger and repeat my VW tech, “”Oh that’s normal”" I am under CPO warranty for the next six months something tells me in seven months I’ll have a problem.
