My Tale of Woe…
Hello;
I am new to this forum, and i havent owned a vw for long. But i feel that i Have a story to tell.
I fist became the proud owner of a 97 jetta GT in june of 2006. I had previously owned 2 1994 mazda protege’s which had given me trans and alternator problems. so in an attempt to better my current vehicular standpoint i saved for nearly a year and bought said jetta for $3400. it seemed like a steal. the car was in imaculate shape, with the exception of some surface rust and 210,000K, but none the less still a solid car.
i purchased the car on the understanding that VW’s were great cars.
the vehicle needed nothing to pass inspection and had no major service issues to that date.
and then the problems began.
the first issue was a rear brake caliper. it seized and needed to be replaced. the cheapest one available was a junkyard deal that cost $60.
the next issue was the rear brake equilizer that fell apart. it cost $180.
next the plug wires fouled up and needed to be replaced, plus spark plugs. $110.
next the wiring harness for the heated o2 sensor chaffed on the exhaust manifold and caused the fuel pump fuse the keep blowing everytime i attempted to start the car. it is still not fixed to date.
next the right front wheel bearing wore out and needed to be replaced. $50.
next was the starter that failed without warning and had to be replace. $240.
next was ball joints and tie-rod ends on both sides. $80.
the fuel pump miraculously fouled up and required some crafty re-wiring on my part to correct a positive going to ground problem.
next the wheel bearing that i had replaced months earlier had failed to the point of separating and had to be replaced again. $50.
the clutch is entirly gone to the point of barely accelerating.
the coolant flange that links the upper rad hose and head cracked and caused a drastic over heat. flange was $13.
and now because of the over heat the head gasket is ruined and the oil is full of coolant, the head and base are knocking and i fear to drive it. this is the last nail in the coffin.
this car has gone to hell in one short year and cost me nearly $1000 dollars in parts alone and even more in excess gas consumption due to the o2 sensor foul up.
this car has ruined me and set me back a year.
i hope that someone will read this and learn.
VW’s are not worth the hype and given the chance will screw you every way they can. i find it impossible to save mony due to this car and am forced to take on a heafty loan in order to continue getting to work and trying to get ahead in life.
learn from my story and be wary.
VWSUCKS.
