passat nightmare
6 months after my extended warrenty expired, my 01 passat wagon with only 30,000 miles has become a nightmare. Oil light come on, take it to local service station (It’s Sat. afternoon, VW is closed) They change the oil and filter and it stops. They mention that the CV boots are cracked. Take it to VW to have the car service for a family vacation to Disneyland. It took 1 week to perform 30,000 service, replace CV boots, and the now damaged axles from the CV boots. Total service, $3,000 + rental car charges. Now, on the road with the family, car flashes low oil, again. Call VW, they can’t help, maybe faulty sensor, maybe something else. They know all about the sludge problem, that I never got the warning letter about. We are nowhere near any cities so we press on only to have the engine freeze up on us. $200 tow job to VW dealer, 15 days in the shop. Again rental car charges. $6,000 for a new engine. I get 100 miles away and the check engine light starts flashing and the car is running rough. Another $250 tow job to another VW place to find out the engine coil has gone out and not part of the new engine warrenty. Another rental car charge. Now into this car for about $11,000 in 3 months. Trade in value is only $9,000. This on a car with only 31,000. I wish I had never sold my Saturn. I hate this car and will have to work alot of overtime to pay off these repairs. I will never, never, never ever buy a VW again.
