What
I own a 2002 cabrio which i am still making payments on. I have spent nearly $2000 on various mechanical failures in the last year alone, that should not be occuring with only 85,000 miles. I am contemplating getting soemthing different, but am only 10 months from paying the thing off. Any suggestions?

drove VW 1961-1983- No escessive maintenance costs
1984 -2010 Junk in 1984 and up- I bought Honda, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Kia -$0 maintenance, excellent style and drive, MUCH higher resale values.
I have a 2001 Cabrio..bought new

To ‘wmoore04′… You either don’t own that cabrio or should post in the ‘don’t know squat of and about cars’ section (if that exists anywhere at all). If you got New Head(wonder what that means? in some parking lot?) it is most likely because you are one who ignores timing belt service, but even so, that could have been REPAIRED; rebuilt transmission AND clutch(???)… how goofy a stick driver can be, or gullible maybe, to wreck BOTH a clutch AND a transmission AND pay for it? Take this to some kindergarden for an afternoon nap! Same goes for your ‘rotors’ (brake damage and premature failure ,like clutch for that matter, is all DRIVING HABITS); for the exhaust, for sure you’ve been taken for a ride, and, have you bought 4 Check Engine Lights or what? Maybe YOU should never buy a VW, after all, your ‘buying’ pattern show going lower and lower. Look at your good Toyota now, would you like to have been one of the ‘not-so-lucky’ ones that died in the high-riding Toyota? Not to mention Honda, the ‘burning oil’ Honda of the same vintage as your Cabrio? For the others, thank God I have a brain and NEVER get into a financial deal which involves any of those vehicles’ ownership. Have a good life, that of yours, in your world, and stop blaming VW (or any manufacturer) for your shortcomings. Actually, 1984s Mark IV VW was and still is the cheapest to buy, maintain and operate GOOD car, parts are all over, you only need, like the gentleman mentioned before you, a GOOD TRUSTING TECHNICIAN to tackle the job and sort you out. If not, you’ll be like a deer staring at the approaching headlights and waiting to be hit.
